. specification.
This invention relates to hose couplings which are designed for coupling together two sections of hose commonly used with streetwashers, house-faucets, and for other purposes.
The nature of myinrention consists inanew and improved article of manufacture-to wit, a spun-metal tube having formed on it annu lar beads or shoulders and tubular extensions beyond said shoulders, in combination with frusto-conical screw-threaded rings, which are also formed of spun metal and applied permanently but loosely on the coupling-tube and adapted to embrace the ends of hose-sections and to form self-tightening joints when there is a head or pressure of water in the hose, as will be hereinafter explained, and pointed out in the claim. I
In the annexed drawings, Figure l is aside view of my improved spun-metal couplingtube with its' coupling-rings applied. Fig. 2.
is a diametrical section through the improved coupling.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both figures.
The letter A designatesastraighttube, which is drawn so that it is seamless, and B B are annular ribs or rounded shoulders which have tubular extensions 0 0 beyond them, the ob- 0 jectof which is to prevent a casual detach- 1 ment of the hose-sections when they are deflected out of a straight line. This deflection often occurs in the use of a hose-as, for instance, in drawing a hose around a corner, a tree, or other object. By extending the ends of the tube beyond the annular ribs or shoulders B 'B, as described, the angle or curve which the'hose forms when deflected out of a.
straight line will beat the extremity of the extension G, and not at the shoulder B. Hence there will not be any tendency to draw the hose away from the saidshoulder.
D D are frusto-conical rings or binding-collars, which are constructed with screw-threads formed by the well-known process of spinning sheet metal. The threads are rounded, like similar threads formed on preserve-jar caps or rings. The said rings D D are loosely applied on the coupling-tube A, so that they are not only endwise movable thereon, but they are free to rotate. The rings D D are formed complete with internal flanges, E E, which rings are slipped over'thecoupling-tubes, after which the annular beads or shoulders are spun on these tubes at the rear termini of the tubular extensions thereof.
It will thus be seen that I produce a self packing or tightening hose coupling adapted to couple two sections of hose, which coupling is provided with binding and coupling rings of conical forin having screw threads im, pressed into them by well-known process of spinning sheet metal. It will also be seen that the spun and drawn tube and also the rings are permanently connected together and constitute an entirety. p 1 claim as my inventiona The new article of manufacture consisting of a flexible drawn tube having annular shoulders and tubular extensions formed on it, in combination with screw-threaded flexible conipressing and coupling rings applied perma-
