Description
NrrED STATES PATENT Farce,
JACOB B. MOORE AND HENRY BOVEE, OF CLAYTON, MICHIGAN.
ADJUSTABLE DRYING-RACK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 269,874, dated January 2, 1883.
(No model.)
.fignres of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Our invention relates to improvements in that class of adjustable drying-racks used for drying fruits, vegetables, or for warming articles of food, and in which the receivingtrays are supported upon a frame attached to the top of a vertical rod having its hearings in a metallic bracket or standard, which is adapted to be clamped upon the rim or flange ot a stove, the frame carrying the said receiving-tray being capable of being raised or lowered upon. the vertical rod at any desired height above the stove; and our present improvements consist essentially of an improved and novel means for raising and lowering the drying-trays, and in other details of construction and general arrangement of parts, all as will be hereinafter fully described, and specifically designated in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of our completedevice; Fig. 2, a detail view thereof, and Fig. 3 a plan view of the tray.
Similar letters ofreference occurring on the" several figures indicate corresponding parts.
Referring to the drawings, A represents a vertical standard or bracket, having a groove, (1, extending from top to bottom and opening out to one side of the same, and provided at its base with two lugs,b b, projecting at right angles to the body of the said standard, for adjusting the same upon the rim or flange of a stove by means of the thumb-screw e, as in the usual manner.
B represents a fiat metallic rod adapted to fit within the groove a of the standardA, and provided with teeth or cogs (Z upon its outer face, which project through the open side of the said groove. At the top of the standard A, and projecting at right ang1es thereto,
are arranged two lugs, a, one on each side of the said groove a, and between which is journaled the pinion G, the cogs of which mesh into the teeth or cogs of the rod B, the axle of the pinion being provided with a suitable crank,f, whereby motion is imparted to the pinion to raise or lower the rod B in the groove a and adapt it to any desired height above the stove, the said rod B being held at any given point by means of the metallic pin 9, engaging with the circ'ular openings h in the rod B, and with the opening '0' in the standard A. In the upper end of the flat metallic rod B is provided a circular socket oropening, h in which is adapted to lit the lower part of the rod E, which carries the spider-frame D, which in its turn supports the receiving-tray F, and allows of the frame and tray being readily swung around ott' from or over the heat from the stove. The tray F is preferably formed of perforated sheet metal. By means of our improvements the trays can be readily turned back and forth over the stove, and raised or lowered to any desired height above the same -in the simplest and best possible manner.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new and useful is- 1. The herein-described adjustable dryingrack, consisting of the standard A, adapted to be clamped to the flange of a stove, and provided with the groove a to receive the rod B, having teeth or cogs d for engagement with the pinion O, which is provided with crankshaftf, said rod B carrying the rod E, spider frame D, and tray F, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
2. In an adjustable drying-rack, the combination of the standard A, having groove a, vertical rod B, provided with teeth (1, rod E,
carrying the frame D and tray F, and the pin-.
ion 0, having crank-shaftf, the several parts being adapted for operation in connection with each other, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof we aflix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
JACOB B. MOORE. HENRY BOVEE.
