THRASHING-MACHINE.
SPECIFCATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 269,622, dated December 26, 1882.
Application led July 24, 1882.

Be it known that I, CLEMENT BEVELo'r, ot' East St. Louis, in the county of St. Clair, and in the State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Thrashing- Machines; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon,malting a part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain improvements in thrashing-machines; and it has for its object to dry the grain when damp, and thus prevent itV from clogging the machinegto remove the straw from the thrashing mechanism quickly and eifectually; to beat out any of the grain carried ofi' by the straw and save the same, and to provide for adjusting the elevatorlbclt, as more fully hereinafter specified. These objects I accomplish by the means illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l represents a sideV elevation of my machine; Fig. 2, a longitudinal vertical sectional v-iew thereof, and Fig. 3 a detached view, showing the drying devices for heating and drying the grain. y
'Ihe letter A indicates the frame of the apparatus or machine, which is ot' the ordinary or any approved construction; and B, a feedhopper located at the forward end of the machine.
Just back of the feed-hopper arev located the thrashing devices, which consist of a rotating slatted drum, O, having a series of pins or projections, D, on its periphery, and a curved plate, E, located below thedrum, and provided with a series ot' pins or projections, F. The drum is mounted upon a shaft, G, journaled in bearings H, and provided with a drivingpulley, by which it may be putin motion. The plate E is pivoted at L, and at its front edge is connected. with a lever, M, located at the front of the apparatus, by means of which the plate may be adjusted as required. Just behind the thrashing devices are located two rollers or carriers, N, which have longitudinal angular ribs P, and which'are geared to turn in opposite directions, so as to seize and carry (Model.)

The letter NV indicates a beater located at the upper end of the aforementioned belt, having its journals mounted in suitable bearings, and provided with gearing, by means ofwhich it may be rotated, so as to beat up the' straw as it passes along.
Y indicates another elevator-belt, which is designed to carry ofi" the straw inally. of the drawings, first, that by reason of the location in the machine of my drying-chamber the grain may be delivered directly from the shoe into the said chamber; and, secondly, that by rea-son of the peculiar construction of the chamber I am able to obtain a large drying-surface, which occupies but a small space in the machine, thus rendering my dryingchamber peculiarly applicable to a thrasher, as its construction admits ot' its being located in the most desirable part of the machine, and in a. space which is usually ot' small dimensions. Owing` to this peculiarity of construction, I am able to supply the thrashers already in use with a dryingchamber which possesses a 1arge heating-surface, and which occupies but a small space.

Having thus described my invention, what T claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
I. In a thrashing-machine, the combination ofthe thrashing-cylinder and the concave with the carrying-rollers, longitudinally ribbed, as described, and located in close proximity to the thrashing mechanism, the said rollers being geared to rotatein opposite directions, and adapted to grasp and carry the straw, in the manner substantially as herein shown and set forth.
2. In a thrashing-machine, the combination ot' the thrashing-cylinder and the concave with the carrying-rollers, constructed and located substantially as shown, and the elevating-belt, the said rollers being adapted to receive the straw from the thrashing mechanism aud deliver it upon the belt, as described, and for the purpose set forth.
3. In athrashing-machine, the combination, with the fan and grainshoe, of the semicircular heater and propelling-screw, substantially as and for the purposes specited.
