UNITED STATES PATENT Frise...
ANDREW TRACY,'OF HIGHLAND, IOIV.'
TAKE-UP FOR SEWING-MACHINES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 269,552, dated December 26, 1882,
' .Application filed October 3, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern y Be it known that I, ANDREW TRACY, of Richland, in the county ot' Keokuk and State of Iowa, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Take-Ups for Sewing-Machines;. and I do' hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled inthe artto which itappcrtains to make and use the same, reference beitig had to the accompanying drawings, which form partot` this speciication.
Figure l 'is a perspective view of my iinproved take-up i'or sewing machines, part ot' the casing having been broken away so as to illustrate the working mechanism. Fig. 2' is avertical sectional view, and Figs. 3, 4, and 5 are detail views. v l
Corresponding parts in the several figures are denoted by like letters ot' reference.
This invention relates totakc-ups for sewing-machines; and it consists in certain improvements in the construction ot' the same, which will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings hereto annexed, A represents the casing, having hearings for one end of the main operating-shaft B, carrying the disk C', carrying an eccentric roller, D, engaging the heart-cam E of the needle-har, which is thus operated.
The casing A is provided with hearings for a slide, F, moving vertically and having at its upper lend a laterally-adjustable plate, G, carrying a pin, H, upon which is mounted a friction-roller, I. Below the latter the slide F is provided with a pin, J. The said piti Jand roller I engage an eccentric flange, K, adjustable upon the rear side ofthe disk Gby means of pins or bolts L, working in slots M insaid disk. In this manner the slide is operated, and its stroke may be regulated by properly ad- .justing the eccentric flange K and the roller I. Rollers N may he arranged in the shell or casing adjoining` the slide F, for the purpose of reducing friction to a minimum. SlideF is provided with a notch, O, to accommodate the take-up lever'P, which is pivot-ed in the casing, rear of said slide, and which projects through a slot in the front ot' the casing. The notch 0 hasta pin, Q, fitting in a. slot, R, in the takeup lever, which is thus operated by the vertical reciprocating movement ot' the slide.
The end of the take-up lever has an eye, S, and notch T, covered by a dat spring, U, so as to admit the thread easily and hold it securely. Tension and thread guides ot suitable construction are to be provided.
The operation of my in vention will be readily understood from the foregoing description in connection with the drawings hereto annexed. It is simple in construction, convenient, and effective. i
I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent ofthe United Statesl. The combination, with the slide F, of the as set forth.
2. The disk C, having adjustable liange K, in combination with the slide F, haring adjustable roller I and piti J, as set forth.
In testitnony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto at'lixed my signature in presence ot' two witnesses.
ANDREW' TRACY.
