-Within the casing 9 is arranged the cam l3 that is keyed on the lower rotating shaft 6 and is provided with an endless helicoidal groove l4 that engages with a roller l5, the spindle N5 of which is mounted in the lower end of the picking arm 3. The extreme positions taken by this roller, in the movement imparted to it by the groove M, are indicated in Fig. 1 at i5 and I5", whilst the corresponding positions of the picking arm 3 are indicated by the chain lines 3' and 3" in that figure.
The casing 9 consists of a body, the profile of which is clearly shown in Fig. 2 having a front is closed by a cover [1 tightly pressed against the front face of the casing 9 to which it is attached by nuts l8 screwed on to studs l9 mounted in or forming part of the casing 9, the cover I! being provided with corresponding holes 33 as shown in Fig. 3.
The picking arm 3 is mounted on the upper part of the casing 9 from which it emerges so that it can oscillate freely to the extent required, the casing and the boss of the picking arm being arranged in such manner that the opening in the casing 9 through which the picking arm projects is completely closed, as far as possible as later shown.
To provide for the oscillation of the picking arm 3 it has a hub 3a traversed by a spindle 20 forming a journal for the arm, the spindle 20 being rigidly mounted on the upper thickened part 9c of the casing 9. The part 90 has a front face 9d of circular shape that serves as a face bearing, with the interposition of a washer 2|, for the front face 22a of a bushing 22 fitted in one end of the cylindrical boss 3b that extends from the hub 31a. of the picking arm 3. On the other side of the picking arm 3, the hub 3a also has a boss 30 that supports another bushing 22 having the face 22b that serves as a bearing for the inner face of the head 20a of the spindle 20. The hub 3a of the picking arm 3, the bosses 3b and 3c on opposite sides of the hub 3a, a bushing 22 fitted into the outer end of each boss, the head 20a of the spindle 20, the washer 2|, and the cover [1 fitting tightly against the head substantially close the opening in the casing while permitting the picking arm 3 to oscillate.
When the picking arm 3 has been fitted and the shaft 20 tightened by means of the locknuts 23, the cover l1, having the upper central part Ila that is a close fit against the head 20a of the spindle 20, is secured in place by the nuts l8.
As the picking arm 3 is supported, at its pivotal point, by the spindle 20 mounted in the casing 9, which itself is pivotally mounted on the shaft 6 by the bearings in the end plates 9a, the picking arm and the needle are operated in a very precise manner, the benefit of which is shown, among other results, by the greater accuracy and regularity in the operation of the insertion of the weft.
In the case of looms with two opposite picking arms 3, shown in Fig. 4, the crosspiece ll'l, supported by the two swords 5 of the batten, connects the two corresponding casings 9, forming thus, with the batten, a rigid assembly.
In the case of looms with a single picking arm, a rigid assembly, in the same way, can be secured by connecting the casingby a crosspiece to the two swords of the batten.
The cover ll of the casing 9 has a tapped hole 24 fitted with a threaded plug 25; the geometriables the level 28 cal axis of this hole coincides with that of the roller 15 when the picking arm 3 occupies the vertical position shown in Fig. 1, so that it is possible, by unscrewing the single plug 25, to verify the perfect tightening of the spindle l6 of the roller IS.
The casing 9 is provided, at its lower part, on the side opposite to the frame 8 of the loom, with two threaded holes 26 and 21 each closed by threaded plugs, the upper 'of which plugs enof the oil bath, in which the cam l3 splashes about, to be verified, whilst the lower plug enables the oil bath to be emptied.
To prevent any foreign object from getting accidentally under the oscillating casing 9, which might entail, when the next oscillation occurred, the jamming or fracture of the casing, the right and left hand sides of the casing have depending prolongations or flanges, 9e and 9f respectively, which prolongations or flanges, in combination with the raised sides, 29 and 30 respectively, of the shield of sheet material fixed to the floor, eliminate this risk.
To the same end the front part is protected by providing the cover H with the prolongation 11b in the form of a flap, the cross section of which as shown in Fig. 2 is in the form of an arc of a circle having its center on the axis of the shaft 6 around which the casing 9 pivots, in such a Way that the prolongation llb passes always at the same distance from the raised side 3| that may be integral with the raised sides 29 and 30, of the shield of sheet material fixed to the floor.
The rear part of the casing 9, behind the perpendicular plane through the axis of the shaft 6, is cylindrical and, in consequence, passes always at the same distance from the floor. However, to realise a complete framing on the four sides, there is provided a posterior raised side 32 of the shield of sheet material fixed to the floor.
It is to be understood that the invention is in no way limited to any particular form of construction but includes all variants, improvements of details and uses of equivalent means without, for this reason, exceeding its scope. Thus the oscillating movement of the case might be obtained, for instance, by connecting it to the batten l by a strut, in combination, or not, with the crosspiece Ill.
The picking arm can of course control the needle by different arrangements, just as it can control two opposite needles by a known system of articulations. The picking arm can also put in action other members.
I claim:
1. Shuttleless looms comprising a casing, picking arm, said picking arm operating the weft inserter longitudinally to and fro for the insertion of the weft being pivotally mounted on the upper part of the casing having an oil bath containing the driving members for the. said movement, the casing itself being pivoted to allow of an oscillating or rocking movement respectively towards the front and rear of the loom, in synchronism with the movement of the batten; the picking arm and the casing being located at the place where normally the picking arm is pivotally mounted for oscillation in two planes, said casing having an opening made in the upper part thereof for the passage of the picking arm, said picking arm having a hub at the pivotal mounting means thereof, a boss on each side of the hub, a bushing disposed in each boss, a head for having Weft inserters,
driving members and a.
one side of the hub in juxtaposition outer surface of one bushing, and a washer for stantially blocking the opening.
2. Shuttleless looms having weft inserters, as in claim 1, COmpIISIIlg a lower rotating shaft the ends of the 4. Shuttleless looms having weft inserters, as in claim 2, comprising a. cover for the casing, said cover having an ent of the roller with the cam to be inspected.
