Description
4, 1954 F. NIELSEN CAMBER ADJUSTING TOOL Original Filed Jan. 31. 1947 jaw/ail Wwgdi 121% Patented Aug. 24, 1954 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE CAMBER ADJUSTING TOOL Frederik Nielsen, Quincy, Mass.
Original application January 31, 1947, Serial No.
725,529, now Patent No. 2,572,654, dated October 23, 1951. Divided and this application November 21, 1950, Serial No. 196,878
1 Claim. 1 1
This invention relates to mechanism for adjusting the camber of knee action vehicle wheels and has for an object to provide such a mechanism which may be actuated by power and which is simple and rugged in construction.
This application is a division of my application Serial No. 725,529, filed January 31, 1947, for Camber Adjusting Tool, now Patent No. 2,572,654, issued October 23, 1951.
For a complete understanding of this invention, reference may be had to the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a top plan View of the mechanism in use, the knuckle support arm of the vehicle being shown in section.
Figure 2 is a sectional view on line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a sectional view on Figure 2.
Referring to these figures, a pair of arms I and 2 have their outer ends spaced to receive between them a power actuated means such as the hydraulic cylinder 3 provided with opposed pistons 4 and 5 engaging the arms I and 2 The arm 2 is provided with a loop 6 through which a reduced tongue portion 7 of the arm 1 passes, this tongue portion being rockable supported against the convexed outer end portion 8 of the loop 6. The outer end part of the tongue portion 1 may bear on one side of the knee action knuckle support A between spaced parts comprising extensions 9 and ID of the inner end of the arm 2 on opposite sides of a concave intermediate portion I I, the parts being applied to the knuckle support, as shown in Figures 1 and 2,
line 33 of and the remote ends of the arms 1 and 2 being forced apart, as by supplying fluid under pressure to the interior of the cylinder 4, the arm end 8 presses the knuckle support arm toward contact with the concaved intermediate portion 1 l of the arm I, thus bending the knuckle support between the portions 9 and III.
From the foregoing description of an embodiment of this invention, it should be evident to those skilled in the art that various changes and modifications may be made without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention.
I claim:
A mechanism of the class described, comprising a pair of arms the outer ends of which are spaced apart, power mechanism for forcing said outer ends apart located between said outer ends, one of said arms having a loop near to its inner end and a pair of spaced portions for engagement with one side of a knee action knuckle support at points spaced therealong, and the other of said arms extending through said loop and being pivotally supported thereon and having an end portion positioned to engage the opposite side of said support between said spaced points.
