nxnna'onro mom Application filed December 18, 1922. Serial No. 607553;
.10 the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in hydraulic jacks and has for its object to provide opposite sides of the jack body with outwardly extending hook-shaped lugs which face in the opposite direction from the jack plunger which is disposed at one end of said jack body. By this arrangement, tie rods, chains, U-bolts or other connectors may be quickly and easily engaged with the lugs to enable the jack-to be used for numerous purposes, for instance, for removing gears, pistons, pulleys, propellers, etc.
With the foregoing in view, the invention resides in the novel subject matter hereinafter described and claimed, the descriptive matter being supplemented by the accompanying drawing. Figure 1 is a side elevation of a jack constructed in accordance with my invention, showing one application'thereof for removing a gear from a shaft.
Figure 2 is an elevation looking at right angles to Fig. 1.
Figure 3 is an end elevation.-
In'the drawings above. briefly described, the numeral 1 designates an elongated jack body having a hydraulically operated plunger 2 at one end, the hydraulic operating means for this plunger being positioned within the body and operated by a suitable handle 3 to which a lever may be attached. As this operating means however is covered by prior patent, or-ma'y be of any desired form, it has not been illustrated.
Opposite sides of the body 1 are provided with outwardly extending integral lugs 4 which are provided with hook-shaped ends 5 facing in the opposite direction from the plunger 2. Tie rods, U-bolts, chains or other desired connecting devices may read ily be engaged with these lugs for connecting the jack operatively with the work. In Fig. 1, I have shown one application of the invention, in which'a pair of U-bolts 6 are hooked over the lugs 5 and engaged with a yoke 7 for removing a gear 8 from a shaft 9, the plunger 2 being in contact with the end of this shaft. It will be understood that this is only one of the many applications of' the invention, but it will be clear that in all instances, the means for connecting the jack with the work, may be quickly and easily attached to or detached from the jack body, due to the provision of the hookshaped lugs 5.
As excellent results may be obtained from the details disclosed, these details are preferably followed. It is to be understood however that within the scope of the invention as claimed, numerous minor changes may be made.
I claim:
The combination with an elongated cylindrical body carrying a plunger at one end and means for forcing said plunger outwardly on the axial line of the body; of
-flatsided uniformly shaped lugs integral
