My present invention relates to means for the permanent stripping of the main cylinder of carding machines for textile libres oi the kind in which use is made of a stripping roller or cylin der which is placed under the main cylinder at the side opposite the doffer the clothing of said stripping roller penetrating into that of the main cylinder` and said roller rotating at a greater speed and in the same sense as the latter.
The known devices make the obtaining or" cer" tain advantage possible and in particular a re-` duction in the number oi strippings, an increase in production economy in material and improven ment in the regularity' of the web or fleece.
On the other hand as at present carried out they give rise to certain disadvantages.
The clothing is usually made as a band the dense parts of which are spaced and which is wound round a stripping cylinder or roller and this results consequently in an irregular lengthening of this band so that the dense parts are not always localised exactly on the same generatriX of the stripping cylinder.
Another disadvantage is that in order to replace the clothing it is necessary to remove the stripping cylinder from the carding engine and afterwards replace it again in position.
The object of the present invention is to remove these disadvantages and particularly to make the replacement oi the clothing possible whilst the stripping cyiinder is in its working po sition on the card.
For this purpose, according to the invention the stripping cylinder has on its periphery longitudinally extending metal plates which are arranged along generatices of the cylinder or along helices of iiXed pitch and which are covered with a clothing secured thereto in a manner similar to that of securing the clothing to card ilats.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which:
Fig. 1 is a transverse section of one of the metal plates showing means for axing it to the stripping cylinder.
Figures 2 and 3 are respectively a vertical and horizontal cross section showing a stripping cylinder provided with metal plates according to the invention.
Figure a is a plan view of the foundation of the clothing from below showing the arrangement of the staples forming the Wire teeth.
Figure 5 relates to a modification.

ber and comprises a base or foundation portion E from which Wire teeth 3 extend radially outwardly. The base 2 of the clothing is secured to the plate member l by a pair of channel members il which extend along opposite sides of the plate member l and comprise upper and lower radially spaced arm portions which embrace edge portions of the plate member l and the base 2 of the card clothing for securing the card cloth ing to the plate member.
Referring to Figs. 2 and 3, the plate members l are secured by fastening means such as bolts 5i in threaded engagement with nuts 16 to flange portions e of supporting members It which are f radially apertured to receive the bolts 5. The
iiange portions t are recessed so that the channel members 4 cannot move laterally away from the plate members and release the card clothing. Moreover, the inner arm portions of the channel members t which embrace edge portions of the inner surface of the plate member l, are clamped between the plate members l and the outer surface of the ange portion 9 by the action of the bolts 5, thus further securing the assembly of the card clothing to the plate member.
The supporting members It are of circular configuration and are disposed in spaced relationship along a shaft l2. The supporting members le comprise hub portions il which are keyed or otherwise fixed to the shaft l2 for rotation therewith. The supporting members lo extend radially outwardly from shaft l2 and curved metal sheets S are mounted thereon intermediate the plate members I to form a closed hollow metal cylinder.
A feature of the invention is that the clothing may have the staples forming the wire teeth 3 arranged in threes so that the teeth form a series of regular designs. The clothing is thus arranged on the plates according to a design which is repeated every three teeth.
In Figure 4 of the accompanying drawings the portions l of each staple forming the wire teeth (i are arranged as shown that is, if in a transverse direction two adjacent groups 81 and 82 each comprising three staples are considered, the portions 'lL-T1, i2-75, I3-'IG of the corresponding row in each of the groups occupy p0- sitions such that the locations of their teeth 3 are situated at the corners of a square (squares C).
The foundation may be made on a band machine utilising the machine only for the formation of the perforations at the positions indii cated at P (Figure 2) and the staples then set at the position shown at 1 by usual or suitable means.
Figure 5 shows a form of embodiment in which the metal plates are arranged along helices of xed pitch.
What I claim is:
1. A carding cylinder of the class described, comprising: a main supporting shaft, a plurality of supporting members disposed in spaced relationship along said shaft and ixed thereto 'for rotation therewith, said supporting members eX- tending radially outwardly therefrom be ing provided at their outer portions with radialu ly apertured flange portions, a plurality of plate members extending longitudinally oi said shaft, fastening means securing said plate members to said flange portions and cooperating with said apertures, a card clothing extending along each of said plate members and comprising a base portion covering the width of said plate mem ber, and a pair of channel members extending along opposite sides of each of said plate members and comprising radially spaced arm portions which embrace edge portions of each plate member and the base of each card clothing for securing said clothing to said plate member.
2. A cylinder according to claim 1, in which said liange portions are recessed and said plate members are disposed in said recesses, whereby disengagement of said channel members by lateral movement away from said plate members is prevented.
3. A cylinder according to claim 1, further comprising curved metal sheets extending between said plate members and secured to said supporting members to form a closed hollow cylinder.
