UNITE STATES PATENT IrErc CHARLES \V. POST, OF SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS.
SULKY-PLOW.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 268,280, dated November 28, 1882.
Application filed May 31, 1882. (No model.)
- To all whom it may concern:
, act description.
My invention consists in a locking attachment for the beams of snlky and gang plows, having the object to pret'ent oscillation ofthe lorward end of the beam, as hereinafter described'and claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, tbrming'a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure l is a sectional side view of a sulkyplow with my improvements applied for looking the beam. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the plow.
The plow, as shown, is of ordinary construction, A being the arch or elevated axle; E, the bail, hung on the axle; and B, the plow-beam, bolted to a casting, M, that is pivoted upon the bail by a bolt, P. F is the lever -for raising and lowering the plow. Upon the plowbeam B, at a point behind the pivot P, is clamped a bent or right-angle plate, H, which forms an arm extending above the plow-beam for contact with the under side of the seatspring 0 when the beam is raised. When the beam is raised and locked in the raised position by the lover I engaging the notched plate \V it will be seen that the plate H prevents the rear part of the plow'beam from rising, and consequently the forward end of the beam is prevented from falling and oscillatin The annoyance to the horses caused by the movement of the plow-beam at their heels is thus elfectually prevented.
I do not limit myself to the device exactly as shown, nor to any especial means for attaching it to theplow-beam; but the arm or 'bracket may be attached to the seat spring or support and depend therefrom forcoutact with the raised beam.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. In a sulky or gang plow, the combination, with the plow-beam and the seat support or spring, of the bracket or arm adapted to prevent the lateral-and vertical oscillation of the plow-beam while in an elevated position by the pressure thereof either against the seatsupport or the plow-beam, as described, and for the purpose set forth.
2. The plate or arm H, in combination with the plow-beam B and seat spring or support 0, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
