UNITED STATES CHARLES H. MOKEEHAN, OF MINERAL WELLS, TEXAS, ASSIGNOR ()F HALF TO MADISON F. PRUITT, OF SAME PLACE.
PATENT OFFICE.
ONE-
AUTOMATlC-FAN COM BlNATlON-STAND.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 268,116, dated November 28, 1882,
Application filed August 26,1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES H. MCKEE- HAN, of Mineral Wells, in the county of Palo Pinto and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Automatic-Fan Combination-Stands and Ido hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 is a perspective view, and Fig. 2 is a side view.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspondin g partsin both figures.
This invention relates to an improved stand or support for an automatic fan, which said stand shall be portable, so as to be convenien tly set up wherever desired, and which shall contain various hooks, brackets, shelves, and other conveniences, as will be hereinafter more fully described. t
A A represent two uprights, each mounted on a base, B, and having at its upper end a cross-piece, G.
D D are hooked rods or braces, hinged to i the base and cross-piece of one of the uprights,
and adapted to engage staples E on the base or cross-piece of the other, thus connecting the two uprights and forming a complete frame, as shown in the drawings, which may be conveniently set up over a bed, hammock, or wherever it may be wanted.
F F are wire trusses or braces connecting the centers of the uprights A A with the ends of the bases B and cross-piecesfl, thus making the construction light, yet sufficiently strong.
Secured to one of the uprights A is a case, G, iuclosing a suitably-constructed springmotor adapted to drive the fan-shaft H, one end of which is journaled in said upright A. The outer end of shaft H, which carries the fan I, is journaled in a hanger or bracket, J, which is constructed of wire in the following manner: One end of the wire K is attached to and coiled around one of the rods D, which connect the cross-pieces C. It is then extendedlaterally, so as to form the curved bracket J, on which an eye, L, is formed to form a bearing for the fan-shaft I. The end of bracket J has a hook, M, adjustable upon the other rod D. It will thus be seen that the, hook M may be disengaged and the rods D on one side of the frame disconnected for the purpose of moving said frame, while the spring-bracket J still supports the fan-shaft.
N N are rods or wires secured to the sides of one of the uprights A by screws 0, passing through eyes P formed upon said wires. The ends of the latter pass through perforations Q- in a pair of shelves, B, and are joined under the latter, which are thereby supported. These shelves, which maybe used as lamp and book supports, may, when not in use, be folded up, as shown in dotted lines.
S is a bail forming a newspaper-rack. T T are clothes-hooks; U, a fruit-basket, and Va boot -jack, all conveniently attached to upright A.
This improved combination stand may be manufactured at a small expense; Its convenience and general utility will be readily appreciated.
I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United Statesr l. The herein-described portable frame, consisting of the uprights A, having bases 13 and cross-pieces O, in combination with the detachably-connected braces or rods D, as set forth.
2. The combination, with the frame consisting of uprights A, having bases B, crosspieces (J, and connecting-rods D,ot' the springbracket, consisting of a wire attached to and coiled upon one of the rods D, and having eye L and hook M, the fan-shaftH, journaled in the eye L and in one of the uprights A, and mechanism for operating said fan-shaft, as set forth.
,3. The herein-described portable frame, embody-ing the fan shaft, sprin'g supporting bracket, and operating mechanism, and provided with the shelves, hooks, and brackets N In testimony that I claim the foregoing as 10 R S T U V, all substantially as and for the my own I have hereto affixed my signature in purpose set forth. presence of two witnesses.
4. The combination, with the upright A, of the rods N, having eyes P, the screws 0, and CHAS. HOUSTON MOKEE HAN. the shelves R, having perforations Q, to receive the ends of rods N, which are joined under the shelves, so as to support the latter, as set forth. I
'Witnesses J. O. SON, R. I. LATHROP.
