Other and further objects of theinvention and details ,of it willappear from the following description and from the accompanying drawings which show, for purposes of'illustrating the present invention, one embodiment in. which the invention may take form, it being understood that the drawings are-onlyillustrative of the invention and not limiting the .same.

Figs. 1 and 2' show the stand of a sewing machine being composed of a case 23 and an oil pan 24 arranged therebelow. In said case 23 the main drivin shaft 3 of the sewingmachine is mounted, to which driving shaft a drivingupulley 32" is attached outside the'case. According to the present invention a vertical. partitionfwall 5 is located substantially parallel to said'main'driving shaft 3, which partitionwall subdivides the case 23 into a broader interior compartment l and a narrower outer compartment 2. A second partition wall a is arranged in the interior compartment l of the case 23, rectangular to the main driving shaft 3 and to the first partition wall 5, said second partition wall 7 subdividing the interior compartment i into a larger portion la and a smaller portion lb.
The partition wall 5 is supplied with a bore 25 in which the main driving shaft 3 is supported, whereas the opposite end of the main driving shaft 3 is mounted in the wall 6 of the case 23.
Furthermore, the partition wall i is supplied with an opening 28, connecting together the smaller part lb and the larger part la of the interior compartment.
Moreover, an upper looper 8 and a lower looper 9 are provided, both being adapted to take up a thread and to execute oscillating swinging movements around their respective axes. The loopers 8 and 9, cooperating with the needle M], are disposed in the outer compartment 2 of the case 23.
An upper looper shaft ii! is provided in the smaller part lb of the interior compartment and mounted in a bore 29 of the partition wall 5 and in a bore 36 of a block 3i, provided in the part lb of the interior compartment. The upper looper shaft l2 penetrates through the partition wall 5 into the outer compartment 2. There the upper looper 8 is attached to a clip 2? by means of a screw 32, the clip in turn being clamped, by means of a screw 2'6, to the end E0 of the upper looper shaft l2 projecting out of the partition wall 5.
A lower looper shaft i3 is arranged in the larger portion In of the interior compartment l and mounted in a bore 34 of the partition wall 5 and of a block 33 conveniently integral with the partition wall 5. The end l l of the lower looper wall [3 projects into the outer compartment 2, thereby penetrating through the partition wall. 5. The lower looper 9 is fixed, by means of a screw 32, to a clip 21' which, by means of a screw 26, is clamped to the shaft end II.
A crank web l5, carrying a crank pin it, is
secured to the end M of the main driving shaft 3 projecting into the smaller part lb of the interior compartment. A guide rod l! is articulated to said crank pin H5. The guide rod l! is supplied with an eye lla respectively ill) at both ends.
Each of the eyes is composed of two halves l'la' a and l'la" respectively l'ib and ill), being connected in pairs by screws 3d. The inner bore of the eyes lla respectively ll'b are machined out spherical. The crank pin it, on its part, has
a spherical surface which is articulated in the spherical bore of the eye l'la.
A lever 35 is fixed against rotation upon the upper looper shaft l2. The free end of said lever 35 is supplied with a spherical surface, with which the lever 35, is articulated in the spherical inner surface of the eye l'lb.
A forked lever 35 is attached to the guide rod- H by means of a screw 3!, the forked lever extending parallel to and at a distance from the eye Ill). The lever 35 has a pin-shaped end 35' projecting beyond the spherical shaped part of the,

A further lever I8 is fixed against rotation on the upper looper shaft 12, and, furthermore, a third lever 20 is secured radially upon the lower looper shaft 13. A guide rod l9 is articulated to the free ends of the levers Eli and it. the guide rod l9 penetrating the opening 28 supplied in the partition wall 1 which connects together the two 35' engages the parts la and lb of the interior compartment l. The ends of th levers l8 and 28 also project into the opening 28 during their motion.
The operation of the parts mounted in the case 23 is as follows:
When the main driving shaft 23 rotates, the crank pin it operates the guide rod l! which, through the intermediary of the lever 35 imparts an oscillating swinging movement to the upper looper shaft l2 and accordingly also to the upper looper 8. This oscillating movement, proceeding from the upper looper shaft I2, is transmitted to the lower looper shaft I8 through the lever It, the guide rod l9 and the lever 20, whereby the lower looper 9, on its part, executes an oscillating swinging motion.
It is obvious from the foregoing description that, outside the interior compartment in, lb. only the upper looper 8, the lower looper 9 and the shaft ends It and l l are located. No moving parts are located in said outer compartment which have to be lubricated. As a result, it is impossible that lubricating oil may penetrate from the outer compartment 2 to the cloth to be sewed, which, according to conventional practice, is separated from the outer compartment 2 by the stitching plate, having gaps for one or two feed dogs.
On the other hand, it is also impossible that downy fiber particles, resulting from the sewing operation, and dust may penetrate through the outer compartment 2 into the interior compartment la, lb, because said two compartments are connected together only by bores 29 and 3d, which are filled up'by the ends l0 and ll of the two looper shafts l2 and I3 and the bushings 38 surrounding said shafts. The part la of the interior compartment l, containing the major portion of the moving and therefore lubricated parts, communicates with the adjacent part lb only by a relatively small opening 28 of the partition wall l, so that it is avoided also that more lubricating oil than necessary sprays from the room la into the room lb.
In order to place the major portion of the moving parts in the compartment lo, also the lower looper shaft l3 and the greatest portion of the parts operating said shaft it are located in the compartment la, unlike the sewing machines of conventional type, with which the lower looper shaft and the parts operating the same are located at a place which, in the case of a case 23 according to the invention, is situated in the part lb of th interior compartment l. Furthermore, a simplified drive of the lower looper shaft l3 is accomplished by the arrangement according to the invention. The compartment lb, at the top and at a front side of the case, is closed by a removable cover 35, which seals completely the interior compartment lb. As a result, neither lubricating oil may be sprayed to the cloth out of the beforenamed compartment, which is most adjacent to the cloth to be worked, nor downy particles or dust penetrate into said compartment.
What I claim is:
1. In a sewing machine, especially for making tion wall in the case, arranged substantially,
parallel to the main driving shaft and subdividing the case into a larger interior compartment and a narrower outer compartment, a second partition wall provided in the interior compartment of the case and arranged perpendicular to the main driving shaft and to the first mentioned partition wall and subdividing the interior compartment into a larger portion and a smaller portion, said second mentioned partition wall'being provided with an opening interconnecting the smaller and the larger portion of the interior compartment, and with a bore in which the main driving shaft is supported, an upper looper and a lower looper both adapted to take up the thread and to execute oscillating swinging motions around their respective axes, said loopers being disposed in the outer compartment of the case,'an upper looper shaft located in the smaller part of the interior compartment and mounted in the first mentioned partition wall and in a block, provided in the smaller part of the interior compartment, said upper looper shaft penetrating through the first men tioned partition wall into the outer compartment, theupper looper being attached to the end oflthe upper looper shaft projecting out of the partition wall, a lower looper shaft disposed in the larger part of the interior compartment and mounted in the first mentioned partition wall and in a block integral with said partition wall, said lower looper shaft penetrating through the first mentioned partition wall into the outer compartment, the lower looper being secured to the end of the lower looper shaft projecting out of the first mentioned partition wall, means operated by the main driving shaft and adapted to impart an oscillating swinging motion to the upper looper shaft, second means operated by the upper looper shaft and adapted to impart an oscillating swinging movement to the lower looper shaft, said last-named means penetrating through said opening, and a cover provided to close up tightly the smaller part of the interior compartment and at a front side of the interior compartment.
2. In a sewing machine according to claim 1, in which there are provided a crank web arranged on the end of the main driving shaft projecting into the smaller part of the interior compartment of the case, a crank pin secured to the crank web, a guide rod provided with an eye at both ends, each eye consisting of two halves connected together by screws and being supplied with an inner spherical surface, a lever radially fixed to the upper looper shaft, said lever at its free end and the crank pin both provided with a spherical surface, said spherical surfaces being supported in said spherical inner surfaces, a forked lever being secured to the guide rod, parallel and at a distance from the eye surrounding the spherical shaped end of said lever, and a pin-shaped extremity of the lever projecting beyond its spherical shaped end, said pin-shaped extremity engaging said forked lever.
3. In a sewing machine according to claim 1, in which there are provided a lever secured radially upon the upper looper shaft, a further lever secured radially against rotation upon the lower looper shaft, and a guide rod pivotally connected to the free ends of both aforenamed levers and penetrating through the opening which interconnects the smaller and the larger part of the interior compartment.

In a sewing machine, especially for making overlook seams, chain stitches and double locked stitches, a stand comprising a case and an oil pan mounted below saidcase, a main driving shaft mounted in the case, a vertical partition wall in the case, arranged substantially parallel to the main driving shaft and subdividing the case into a larger interior compartment and a narrower outer compartment, a second partition wall provided in the interior compartment of the case and arranged perpendicular to the main driving shaft and to the first-mentioned partition wall and subdividing the interior compartment into a larger portion and a smaller portion, said second-mentioned partition wall being provided with an opening interconnecting the smaller and the larger portion of the interior compartment, and with a bore in which the main driving shaft is supported, an upper looper and a lower looper both adapted to take up the thread and to execute oscillating swinging motions around their respective axes, said loopers being disposed in the outer compartment of the case, an upper looper shaft located in the smaller part of the interior compartment and mounted in the first-mentioned partition wall and in a block, provided in the smaller part of the interior compartment, said upper looper shaft penetrating through the firstmentioned partition wall into the outer" compartment, the upper looper being attached to the end of the upper looper shaft projecting out of the partition wall, a lower looper shaft disposed in the larger part of the interior compartment and mounted in the first-mentioned partition wall and in a block integral with said partition wall, said lower looper shaft penetrating through the first-mentioned partition wall into the outer compartment, the lower looper being secured to the end of the lower looper shaft projecting out of the first-mentioned partition wall, means operated by the main driving shaft and adapted to impart an oscillating swinging motion to the upper looper shaft, and second means operated by the upper looper shaft and adapted to impart an oscillating swinging movement to the lower looper shaft, said last-named means penetrating through said opening.

In a sewing machine, especially for making overlook seams, chain stitches and double locked stitches, a stand comprising a case and an oil pan mounted below said case, a main driving shaft mounted in the case, a vertical partition wall in the case, arranged substantially parallel to the main driving shaft and subdividing the case into a larger interior compartment and a narrower outer compartment, a second partition wall provided in the interior compartment of the case and arranged perpendicular to the main driving shaft and to the first-mentioned partition wall and subdividing the interior compartment into a larger portion and a smaller portion, said second-mentioned partition wall being provided with an opening interconnecting the smaller and the larger portion of the interior compartment, and with a bore in which the main driving shaft is supported, an upper looper and a lower looper both adapted to take up the thread and to execute oscillating swinging motions around their respective axes, said loopers being disposed in the outer compartment of the case, an upper looper shaft located in the smaller part of the interior compartment and mounted in the first-mentioned partition wall and in a block, provided in the smaller part of the interior compartment, said upper looper shaft penetrating through the first-mentioned partition wall into the outer compartment, the upper looper being attached to the end of the upper looper shaft projecting out of the partition wall, and a lower looper shaft disposed in the larger partloi the interior oompartmentand mounted in the firstementioned partition walliandtin a block integral with said partition-v wall, said lower looper shaft penetrating through theafirst-mentioned partition wall into the outer compartment, the lower looper being secured to the end of the lower looper. shaft projectinev out of, the first-mentioned partition wall.
