UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
HORACE FISHERING, OF XENIA, OHIO.
FUNNEL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 267,861, dated November' 21, 1882.;
n Application led September 1, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom 'it may concern V Be it known that I, HORACE G. FrsHEEING, a citizen of the United States, residing at Xenia, in the county of Greene and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Funnels, of which the following is aV specification, reference being had thereinto the accompanying drawings.
. My invention relates to funnels; and it consists in the construction and 'arrangement of its several parts, as will he hereinafter fully set forth, and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings, Figure l is a vertical longitudinalsection; Fig. 2, a cross-section upon the line wm, Fig. 1. V
A is the funnel. It is provided with measuring-graduations a, grooved around its circumference, and with a suitablyarranged valve, a', which closes the spout a2, as shown. Hinged to the exterior ot' the funnel, preferably upon the same line with the lower measuring-groove shown, are supports B. The ends ot' these supports extend somewhatbelow the discharge-spout a2, so that the funnel is held from contact with the surface upon which it rests. This function of the supports is plainly shown in Fig. 1. Secured at an equal height upon each supportare keepers b. One of them is supplied with a set-screw, b', upon its vertical side, as shown. Extended around the supports and through the keepers is the band b2, both ends ot' which pass within the keeper having the set-screw, so that when said screw is turned down upon the band the supports will be prevented from turning upon their hinges. When the set-screw is loosened the ends of the band slip easily past each other and permit any desired adjustment of thelsupports. By this arrangement, whenthe funnel is placed in the spout of a jug or keg the supports can be adjusted againstits sides and the set-screw turned down upon the band. The supports then serve as braces to prevent the funnel from tipping over by reason of the weight of the liquid. j
What I claim isl. The combination of the funnel, provided with suitable measuringgraduations,with the hinged valve, the hinged supports, and means whereby the supports may be adjusted to the sides of a jug or vessel, allarranged to operate substantially as shown and described.
2. A funnel provided with hinged supports and having a band secured around said supports, whereby they can be adjusted at any j angle to the funnel, as set fort-h.
3. The combination, with a funnel havingv supports hinged thereto, with keepers placed upon them, ot' the band passed through said keepers, and means to hold the hand, as set forth.
In testimony whereotI I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HORACE G. FISHERING.
