PUBLICITY HOLDER ADAPTABLE TO LIGHTING DEVICE Rafael De La Torre, Buenos Aires, Argentina Application-April 30, 1952,;Serial No. 285,265"
laim 1..
The present invention relates to a publicity holder and more particularly to a new holder adapted for removable attachment to electric lighting devices such as devices comprising incandescent lamps or tubular, fluorescent or gas discharge lamps, and including the fixtures and supports therefore.
An object of the invention is to provide a holder of the kind referred to which can be easily and safely detachably secured to a convenient part of such lighting devices, as for example to the envelopes of conventional lamps or to the fixtures or supports therefor advertisin material can be clearly and readily seen due to the background provided by the light of the lamp whilst the lighting capacity of the lamp is not substantially impaired.
A further object of the invention is to provide a holder which is of simple and economic construction.
Broadly the invention consists of at least one intelligence indicia carrier member for carrying the advertising material and supporting means secured to said holder member and adapted to removably attach the same to the lightingdevice.
Other important features of the invention will become evident from the following detailed description of the preferred embodiments of the invention which have been illustrated in the annexed drawings wherein,
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a clip on publicity holder shown attached to a conventional fluorescent lighting tube.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a modified construction of the publicity holder illustrated in Fig. 1, and
Fig. 3 is a sectional view along line III-III of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a modified construction of the publicity holder.
Referring now to Fig. 1 it will be seen that the embodiment of the publicity holder according to the invention shown therein comprises an elongated intelligence indicia carrier member I, of a substantially U-shaped cross-section, and having secured thereto supporting means, such as for example as clip members 2 and 3 for supporting the publicity holder on a lamp, a portion of which is indicated at 4. Clip members 2 and 3 each comprise a pair of resilient arms 4, 5, having a curvature substantially similar to that of the envelope of a standard tubular fluorescent lamp, said arms being interconnected by cross member 6 which cross member in the embodiment illustrated is secured to member I.
a lower member lb of similar cross section coopcrating with the upper member to support the indicia from below, said upper and lower members being joined together by cross member 6a of clips 2 and 3 in parallel, spaced relationship with the open side of each U-shaped member facing the other.
Figure 3 is a perspective view illustrating a still further modification permitting mounting of the publicity holder to a fixture supporting tubular lamp, and
Figure 4 is a perspective view showing a further embodiment of the publicity holder.
As will be understood intelligence indicia are positioned in channel member I, or in the case of the embodiment shown in Fig. 2, positioned between channel members la and lb and then the publicity holder may be supported in a suitable position on or adjacent a tubular lamp by means of clips 2 and 3.
In Fig. 3 there is illustrated an alternative supporting means for supporting the publicity holder on the sockets of a tubular lamp and comprises a ringlike member 1 secured to ends 8 and 8a of upper member la and lower member lb respectively of intelligence indicia carrier member I whilst the other ends 9 and 9a thereof have fast thereon a section ID of a second ring-- like member I l which has pivoted at l2 a second section [3 provided with latch means M for latching the same to section Hi.
It will be seen that in order to place the publicity holder in position over a lamp, ring membar 1 is slipped over one socket of the lamp and ring member ll clamped over the other socket thereof.
Fig. 4 shows a further modified construction of the publicity holder and comprises a first dovetail shaped holder member l5 having walls I5a, 15b, l and a base l5, cooperating with a second holder member ll of identical construction, to receive dovetail shaped ends 8 and !9 of a transparent intelligence indicia bearing member 20. Holder members l5 and l! are fastened for pivotal movement to cross members 6 of clip members 2a and 2b and for this purpose may be provided with a lug or any other suitable member.
It will be appreciated that since the holder members can be pivoted around the cross mem- 3 ber of their respective clips it is only necessary to manufacture one standard unit.
Iclaim:
1. A publicity device for use with an electric light comprising an intelligence indicia holder having dovetailed shaped ends, spaced apart holders having dovetailed shape cross-section embracing said ends, respectively, means on said holders engaging and supporting said ends, a clip member associated with each of the holders comprising a pair of resilient arms and a cross member joining said arms, said arms being shaped and positioned to firmly embrace said electric lamp, and said holders being pivotally mounted to the cross member of its associated clip.
2. A publicity device for use with an electric lamp comprising an intelligence indicia bearing member having dovetailed shaped ends, spaced apart holders having dovetailed shape crosssection, said ends being positioned within said holders, each said holders having an open upper end to receive the respective end of said bearing member, an open side to receive portion of said bearing member intermediate its ends and a base on which the respective end of said bearing member rests, a clip member associated with each holder comprising a pair of resilient arms and a cross member joining said arms, said arms being shaped and positioned to firmly embrace said electric lamp, and said holders being pivotally mounted to the cross member of its associated clip.
