This invention relates to picture display devices, and in particular a toy having a housing with a window representing a screen therein in which spaced spools journaled in the housing are positioned to display pictures on an endless web positioned thereon through said window, and wherein a spring actuated gear train is provided rotating one of said spools to actuate the endless web, or band.

The purpose of this invention is to provide a toy display device that represents a television cabinet wherein pictures are actuated to travel across a window with a spring actuated motor to imitate television.

Various types of devices have been provided for displaying, projecting, and viewing pictures and the like, however, such devices use light and lenses or other equipment that makes them too costly for use as a toy. With this thought in mind this invention contemplates a display device having a housing in the form of a television cabinet and means for displaying pictures on an endless band through an opening in the housing.

The object of this invention is, therefore, to provide means for arranging the elements of a viewing or displaying device whereby sections of an endless web or band are consecutively displayed through a window of the housing.

Another object of the invention is to provide a toy television set in which the parts are actuated with a spring motor having a winding key.

A further object of the invention is to provide a toy television set which is of a simple and economical construction.

With these and other objects and advantages in view the invention embodies a housing, substantially of rectangular shape in cross section having a window with a transparent panel therein, spaced vertically disposed spools journaled in the housing and positioned whereby an endless band mounted thereon is adapted to travel across the window, a spring actuated gear assembly, a key for winding the spring, and means rotating one of said spools by said gear assembly.

Other features and advantages of the invention will appear from the following description taken in connection with the drawing, wherein:

Figure 1 is a front elevational view illustrating the toy television set.

Figure 2 is a vertical longitudinal section through the housing of the set taken on line 2--2 of Fi 3.

Figure 3 is a cross section through the set taken on line 3--3 of Fig. 1.

Figure 4 is a detail showing the spaced spools with the endless web positioned thereon.

Referring now to the drawing wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts the toy television set of this invention includes a housing having a base II) with upwardly extended side walls II and I2, end walls I3 and I4 and a cover I5, spools I6 and H on which an endless web I3 is positioned and a gear train I9, similar to a clock mechanism, and which is provided with a winding key 20.

The spools I6 and IT, on which the endless web I8 is positioned are positioned in the front of the housing, the spool I6 being positioned on a pin 2| that is journaled in blocks 22 and 23, and the spool I! being mounted on a pin 24 that is journaled in blocks 25 and 26. The spools are positioned whereby the endless web I8 travels across a window formed by an opening 21 in the front wall I I of the casing and whereby pictures, characters, or other illustrations on the web, as indicated by the numeral 28 are displayed through the opening as the web travels. The opening may be covered with a transparent sheet or panel 29 as shown in Fig. 3 if desired.

A flange 30 on the lower end of the spool I1 is provided with spaced pins 3| and the pins are positioned to mesh with corresponding pins 32 on a disc 33 on an extended end of a shaft 34 whereby upon rotation of the shaft 34 the pins 32, coacting with the pins 3| rotate the spool II, thereby causing the endless web to travel.

A pinion 35 on the shaft 34 meshes with a gear 36 on a shaft 31 and a pinion 38 on the shaft meshes with a gear 39 on the spring motor 40 in which a spring M, from which the key 20 extends, is mounted. One end of the spring is mounted on a shaft 42 on which the gear 39 is positioned and the opposite end of the spring is held on a pin 43, as shown in Fig. 2.

The spring and gears associated therewith are mounted in a small casing 44 that is positioned on the rear side wall I2 of the housing.

The front or side wall I I of the housing is also provided with an opening 45 around which a frame 46 extends and a fabric or wire mesh sheet, as indicated by the numeral 41 is positioned on the inner surface of the wall II and mounted to cover the opening 45.

The side wall I2 of the housing may be attached to the body thereof with screws 48 whereby the wall I2 and casing 44 are readily removable. The wall II may be provided with knobs 49 and 50 to represent the knobs of a television set.

With the parts arranged in this manner the spring winding key 20 may be rotated to wind the spring and upon release thereof the spring actuates the spools through the train 01' gears and pins 3| and 32 whereby the spool l1 actuates the web [8 so that it travels continuously across the window 21 displaying one picture after another therethrough. The endless web may be removed and replaced with difierent pictures and other means may be provided for changing the pictures as may be desired.

It will; be understood that modifications may be made in the design and arrangement of the parts without departing from the spirit of the invention.

What is claimed is:

In a toy television set, the combination which comprises a hollow substantially rectangular shaped housing having a base, with upwardly ex-- tended side and end walls and also having a cover, one of said side walls having a. window' with a transparent sheet covering the inner surface. thereof therein,. said side. wall having the window therein also having an opening with a fiber sheet on the inner surface. thereof therein, said housing having blocks, extended inwardly fromv side andv end walls thereof, spaced vertically positioned parallel spools journalecl in; said blocks, an endless web having. pictures. thereon trained on said spools, one of said spools having radially disposed pins extended from one end, a spring actuated gear train positioned in the housing and having a winding key extended through the housing, a disc having radially disposed pins thereon mounted to be rotated by the gear train of the housing, said disc positioned whereby the radially disposed pins thereof mesh with the radially disposed? pins on the; end of the spool, and. means removably mounting one of said side walls on the housing.
