The object of the invention is to provide an improvement in laundry drying apparatusrof the type having a plurality Aof drying tumblers'anda vsingle heater and a single exhaust means such :as shown in my prior U. S. Patent No. 2,351,429, :datedjJune 13,1944, for Drying Apparatus. The rimprovementsover saidfprior patent comprisea duct system for conducting the heated air to each of the drying drums rand theoifsetting of the zaxisof these drums relative to each other and the reenter line of the'housing so-as to provide an .inlet-conduit for the'lovver drum and an exit f'conduitforthe upper drum with only aslight -increase'in width 'ofv the casingv over-that of my prior patent. vWith this arrangement each of the drums gets-'its own. supply of heated air which makes forquicker drying andiconsiderable floor -ffspace'issaved over known arrangements.

Referring to the drawings, the numeral 5 designates an upright casing having a heater compartment 6 provided with steam heated coils 'I over which the drying air is drawn through an opening 8 in the casing and discharged through an apertured bottom plate 9 provided with an opening I0. The casing has a top drum I2 and a lower dru I3 mounted therein. These drums and their plurality of 'apertures I5, a hanged opening fI'B in one end, lifting ribs I'I, and ashaft :mounting 'I8 at the .other end to` which'a shaft .IB l,issecured. .As inthe above mentioned Patents Nos.

The exhaust from the conduit 25 and from the drum I3 is conducted into a common exhaust chamber 29 in which an exhaust fan 30 is mounted which acts to discharge the spent heated air to atmosphere, and at the inlet to the housing for this fan I prefer to mount my lint remover which includes a perforated drum 3| mounted and arranged as more particularly shown and described in my U. S. Patent No.
drum i 3 to supply heated air thereto. -for the drum I2 after passing therethrough is carried down through the conduit 23 to the exyhaust chamber 29 and then passes through the vsupply of heated air.

The drive shaft 32 for the fan 30 is directly connected to the Ashaft of an electric motor 33 which carries a pulley 34 connected by a belt 35 with a pulley 3B which forms a part of a speed reduction mechanism 31 Whose output shaft 38 carries a sprocket 39. A sprocket i0 is mounted on the shait I9 for each drum. A chain 4I meshes with both of the sprockets 40, the sprocket 39 and the sprocket 42 of a chain tensioner, so that both drums I2 and I3 are driven by the motor 33 when the fan 3i) is operating and heat is being supplied to the coils 1.
For controlling the supply of heated air to either drum, the single opening I0 in the bottom plate 9 of the heater compartment S has a damper member t3 cooperating therewith. Member G3 is a plate secured at its lower edge to a transversely extending rod 24 pivotally mounted at its ends in the opposite sides of the casing I3 at theupper end of the S-shaped partition 22 and having its front exteriorly disposed end 45 pro- V vided with an operating handle or crank 45 which may have an index pointer fil cooperating with an indicator scale Lit* as shown in Fig. 2. As shown in Fig. 1, when the damper 43 is in midposition, it divides the space defined by the opening I0 into passages 49 and 5E so that heated air from the compartment 6 is directed into the space or conduit 24 to supply heated air to the drum I2 and also into the inlet conduit or space 23 to the The air lint remover to the fan 33 and from thence to atmosphere, and the air for drum I3 after passing therethrough is exhausted through the opening 23 to the chamber 23 and then passes through the lint remover to the fan 3i? and from thence t0 atmosphere. Thus each drum gets its quota of fresh air and exhausts its spent air through separate conduits without increasing the overall width of the housing or casing more than the width of one of these conduits. What I claim as my invention is:

an air heater at the top of said casing, conduit means between said heater and said drums for separately conducting heated air to the upper portion of each of said drums, the upper drum being oiset laterally to a position adjacent one side wall of the housing, the lower drum being offset laterally to a position adjacent the opposite side wall of the housing, said conduit means including a wall member extending between said drums, the voffsetting of these drums, the said side Walls of the housing and the wall member extending between said drums providing housing portions for said drums and an inlet conduit for the lower drumextending down at one side of the upper drum and an exhaust conduit for the upper drum. extending down on the opposite side of the lower drum, the housing portion of said lower drum having an outlet, a common exhaust chamber for the spent air from said drums communieating with the outlet from said lower drum and the lower end of said exhaust conduit,` and an exhaust fan communicating with said exhaust chamber.
