HORSE BASKET. No. 266,779. Patented Oot. 31, 1882.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HORACE B. DAVIS, OF LEXINGTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
HORSE-RACKET.
SPECIFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 266,779, dated October 31, 1882.
Application filed September 4, 1882.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HORACE B. DAVIS, a citizen of Lexington, in the county of Middlesex and Commonwealth of Massachusetts, in the United States of America, have invented a new and useful Improvement in the Construction and Adaptation of rackets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a new and novel improvement in the construction and fastening of rackets to the feet of horses or mules, so that they can work with safety and advantage on soft or meadow land.
To obtain my object I use a. piece of board of a suitable size, and cutaholethrough itsimilar in shape to the footof a horse. A flat bar of steel is bolted across the board, on the under side for the foot to r st upon. I place a piece of wood across the top of the board, in front, so beveled that the hoof of the horse or mule will slip under it and be partially secured. To further fasten and secure the racket I provide a sliding plate with flange, constructed of cast-iron or its equivalent, regulated by a bolt. and which works on the under side of the racket, the flange coming, up into the hole, as heretofore described, far enough (Model) I to catch and inclose behind the shoe the heel of the same. The flange is held and adjusted by a suitable bolt sliding in a slot, as shown in the drawings herewith.
Figure 1 shows the top View of the racket. Fig. 2 shows a transverse section through the center, as shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 shows the under side, with sliding plate, flange, and bolt.
.Letter A, sliding plate with flange; letter B, front piece, as seen in Fig. 2; letter C, the steel bar that the foot rests upon; letter I), the slot that the bolt slides in, and which holds and adjusts the sliding plate with flange, as seen in Fig.
that I claim to have invented, and desire to have patented, is-
As an improved horseracket, the base plate or board provided with the beveled front piece, B,and the i'oot-rrst U,comhined with the flanged plate A, adjustably secured to said base-plate by means of the slot 1) and adjustable bolt, as shown, all substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
HORACE B. DAVIS.
In presence of- O. R. RICHARDSON, FRANK S. DAVIS.
