W. O. KELLY.
REVERSIBLE BARROW OULTIVATOR.
No. 266,697. Patented Oct. 31, 1882.
6,5? fl-reni ar. z. fimz 21am 41225 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
W'ALLAOE O. KELLY, OF HASTINGS, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND WALTER W. KELLY, OF SAME PLACE.
REVERSIBLE BARROW-CULTIVATOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 266,697, dated October 31, 1882.
Application filed August 10, 1882.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WALLAoE O. KELLY, of Hastings, in the county of Barry and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Reversible Barrow-Cultivators; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of this specification.
The nature of this invention relates to certain new and usefulimprovements in the construction and operation of barrow-cultivators, which are particularly designed for garden use; and the invention consists in the peculiar construction of parts, their combinations, and operation, as more fully hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of this specification, A represents the barrow-wheel, suitably journaled between the ends of the handles B or, preferably, such barrow-wheel runs upon an axle the ends of which are secured between the ends of the handles. Radial arms 0, sleeved upon said axle outside the ends of the hub of the wheel, carry at their extremity the frame D, the curvature of which describes a segment or portion of the radius from the axis, and to each of the free ends of this frame is secured the small plow or cultivator tooth, adapted to throw the earth to one side for billing purposes. This (No model.)
standard is also secured at the end of another pair of radial arms, E. The sides of the frame G are within the handles B, and screw-clamps I), through each handle, embrace the side bars of the frame D.
It will be seen that by this construction I furnish a cultivator of two teeth for cultivating between the rows, as shown in the drawing. When it is desired to hill up, the device is turned bottom side up and the hilling-culti vator tooth or plow employed for that purpose. This makes a very economical and effective implement, especially adapted for garden work.
What I claim as my invention is- The reversible hand-cultivator herein described, consisting of the handle-frame B, in which is journaled the axle of the wheel A, the curved frame D, carrying a single plow upon one side, adapted to follow the track of the wheel, and cultivators upon the other side, one upon each side of said wheel, the saddlearms 0 E, sleeved upon the axle and connecting with the frame D, and means I) for adjusting the relative positions offrame and handles, all constructed, combined, and operating as set forth.
WALLACE O. KELLY.
