Description

1954 s. A WITTMAYER 2666305 SWIN i FRAME CHANGING RING Fil ed Nov. 25, 1949 IN VEN TOR.
of the ring so tzhat when tzhe frame I? is closed upon tzhe tzop I2, itz will be keptz in thatz position by the frictional engagementz betzween Ila ancl 11b, While itz may loe easily removed therefrom as by a finger of tzhe user exerting an upwarol pu1l tzhereon.
When tzhe frame t! is open, roc'king on it;s pivot I6, as indicatzed in Fig. l, the platze I8 will automatically tzurn in one directzion, in tzhis case indicated in such a manner thatz the Masonic emblern 24 will be an the tzop of the ring when tzhe frame l! is closed tzhereon, as indicatzecl in Fig. 2.
When itz is desired to display the otzher side 2t of the plate ancl tzhe initials 22 thereon, tzh e user will turn tzhe plate againstz the actzion of tzhe spring V in tzhe oppositze direction and then close ehe frame 11 on ehe tzop I2 where itz Will be keptz by tzhe frictional engagementz of I'ta and I'tb, as has been indicatzed hereinbeiore. By such a closure the plate I8 will be enclosed in the frame l't and will be pressed flatz on tzhe tzop of the ring and. will now display Ehe initials 22.
I may also provide an upstanding curvecl rim 29 atz tzhe rear of tzhe pivotz 16 rising from ehe respective edge of tzhe tzop 22 of the ring and tzhe corresponding edge 29a of tzhe frame H whentzhe same is opened will engage tzhe tzop of said curved upstzanding rim 29 whereby a limitz is provideol for tzhe outzward swinging of tzhe frame l'i.
As Will be Seen I provicle a reliable simple atztzractzive original means whereby tzhe ornamentw tzion on tzhe top of tzhe ring may be changed even While the ring is on the finger of tzhe user.
In tzhe embodimentz shown, the ring may be changecl from one of an initial or sealing ring tzo one showing a Masonic emblem or vice Versa As has been indicated when the frame is opened upon itzs pivotz tzhe spring quickly tzurns tzhe platze in one direction. A small opening of tzhe frame l'l in this case is sufiicientz, the action of tzhe spring 25 Will force the platze I8 againstztzhe tzop l2 ancl forces the frame tzo swing furtzher untzil platze 18 completzes a half turn, and when tzhe frame now is closed upon the top, the respective ornamentz Will automatically appear on tzhe ring. All tzhis may be done witzh a littzle initia1 effortz and will oceur extremely quickly giving tzhe appearance o1 almostz a magic change in tzhe ring.
For tzhe reverse change tzhe frame Will be opened somewhatz by a finger of the user then the plate tzurned againstz the action of tzhe spring in the opposite direction and tzhe frame closed. on the top of the rings, as has been describeol. A very small initial opening of the frame by a finger nail of the user is sufiicientz in either case anal the restz will occur either automatically by tzhe action of the spring or manually tzhrough tzhe pressure of the user on the platze, the respective edge of tzhe platte rubbing an-i pressing againstz the tzop I2 of tzhe ring during the operation, as will be obvious.
Itz will thus be seen thatz there is provided a device in which the several objects of tzhis inventzion are achievecl and whieh is weil adaptzed tzo meetz the conditzions of praetzical use.
-As various possible embodimentzs mightz -loe made of ohe above inventzion, and as various changes mightzbe made in tzhe embodiment above setz fortzh, itz is tzo loe understzood. that all matter herein setz fortzh or shown in the accompanying drawings is to be interpreted as illustrative and notz in a limitzing sense. 1
