Specic reference will now be made to the drawings. In the several views, in the accompanying drawings and in the following specification, similar reference characters indicate corresponding elements throughout.
Indicated generally at I0 is a housing, preferably plastic, which constitutes the handle of the present device which ls open at its rear end as at I4. The front end it is substantially closed except for the provision of a slot adjacent the top for receiving several parts of the invention, as will appear hereinafter. 'I'he substantially rectangular case I3 constitutes a magazine in which blades 20 are received and urged upwardly by means of a spring finger 22 therein. The upper longitudinal edges of the magazine are provided with inturned longitudinal channels 2d which slidably receive a closure 26 so that the magazine serves as a self-contained package for the blades. These channels serve another purpose after removal of the closure as will appear hereinafter. To properly place the magazine in vthe housing, the closure slides out when the magazine is placed fon an elongated bar 28, Fig. 12, which has an upstanding short leg 39 engaging'the front end of the magazine and an upstanding long leg 32 engaging the rear end. The lip 34 serves as a handle whereby the bar and magazine thereon are pushed into the handle housing I0 through its open end as shown clearly in the drawings.
Positioned in the housing on the top of the magazine is an elongated member 3b which is in the form of a relatively flat tube having a depressed shaving ledge 38 at one end. One side of this tube is cut out as at #0 to receive a blade urged therein from the magazine which it overlies and the sides of this tube include longitudinally extending lateral flanges a2 slidably received in the channels 24 of the magazine. The tube at its blade discharge end 44 has a transverse depending lug or iiange 4B which engages the front end of the magazine to properly position the same in the housing. VSlidable in the tube is a blade ejector plate i8 having an inner blade contacting edge 5B coniigurated to conform with one edge of the blade 2c. As a blade is urged by the ejector plate through the discharge opening 44 on the shaving ledge 38, the ejector plate may be releasably held in this position to cover the open upper end of the magazine by a detent 52 at one end of the ejector plate engageable in a recess 54 in the iiat tube 36.
vThe shaving ledge 38 is constructed of a flat blade, retaining platform 55 with depending sideV members v58, the forward edges of which include extensions 6c having transversely aligned apertures 62. Adjacent the forward extensions, the platform is provided with a pair of longitudinal slots 64 for a purpose soon to appear. An elongated blade and guide holder 66 is provided which includes an elongated shank 68 having a longilopening wardly as shown in vigure 2 whereby the blade tudinal ridge l'i engageable in the conventional longitudinal slot 'i2 of the blade 2s. The rear of the shank includes an enlarged fiat triangular head le having a rounded edge 'i6 which is received in the blade outlet Ml. The forward end of the shanl; includes an enlarged triangular flat head 'lo having depending legs 353 and longitudinally extending lugs 32 having gripping grooves 84. rThe legs 8e extend through the longitudinal slots S4 as shown clearly in Figures 4 and 7. A cam latch or lool; et is provided in the form of a V-shaped member, the apex 2d of which is rounded. One leg s2 of the cam latch is substantially dat and includes a laterally extending handle whereas the other leg ir includes, adjacent the apex, lateral trunnions S8 journaled in the apertures i'.
ln operation, the slide fail is depressed to release the detent 52 from the recess or slot 565 and then pulled out to the position shown in Figure 3. This uncovers theV magasine and the'spring 22 therein urges the topmost blade into the blade-rec iving rEhe ejector slide is then pushed inis ushed out through the opening beneath the head ifi onto the ledge 3S being guided in position thereon by the ridges lll and the legs 8:5. urging the cam latch downwar l.ly and into the position shown in Figure 2, the rounded apex El wedges the outer edge o the blade against the flat head lil and locks it in place. To change blades, the cam loci; is pivotcd upwardly as shown in Figure 3 to release the blade, after which a pullpush on the ejector plate or slide will push out a blade on the shaving ledge, the new blade forcing the old blade oil the ledge. The cam latch is then closed again and one can begin shaving, using he plastic housing ifi as a handle.
In view of the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, it
vice Will be quiteap-parent to those slrilledin this art. A more detailed description is accordingly deemed unnecessary.
It is to be understood, however, that even though there is herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of the invention, the same is susceptible to certain changes fully comprehend-ed by the spirit of the invention as herein within the scope of the appended described an claims.
Having des Aribed the invention, what is claimed as new is:
