Description

Sept. 1, 1953 u... R. HAGEN I STEEL WOOL PACKET Filed Sept. 50, 1949 MW wan- Patented Sept. 1, 1953 STEEL WOOL PACKET Leif Richard Hagen, Oslo, Norway, assignor to Norsk Stalull A/S, Oslo, Norway, a Norwegian Application September 30, 1949, Serial No. 118,805 In Norway March 10, 1948 1 Claim. 1
The present invention relates to a metallic wool article which is of simple construction and permits use of the entire article or individual pads thereof for polishing purposes.
For making the metallic wool article I use a steel wool tape, which is known per se, and roll the tape upon itself to obtain a number of spirally wound interconnected rolls in which the tape proceeds continuously from one roll to the adjacent roll. Preferably the tape extends continuously without slack from the outer periphery of a roll to the inner periphery of the next roll, and the rolls are placed with their spiral faces adjacent to each other.
The drawing illustrates by way of example an embodiment of a metallic wool article according to the invention.
The metallic wool tape I, which may be steel wool, is wound to form a number of interconnected rolls 2, which are disposed side by side to form a cylinder. The diameter and the thickness of the rolls may, of course, be varied according to desire, and also the number of rolls in a cylinder may be chosen according to the conditions.
On the drawing the bottom roll 3 is shown in cross-section.
Such a cylinder of rolls may be placed within an envelope of board or paper. When a roll is to be used it may be lifted from such envelope and the steel wool tape cut or torn off between this lifted roll and the next one. The roll thus released is at once ready, for example for scrubhing operations, or it may be inserted into machines adapted for such purpose. In comparison with previously known methods of spooling steel wool tapes or strips, the present article has the important advantage that the steel wool strip does not felt and make difficult severing of individual rolls.
I claim:
A metallic wool article comprising a continuous length of metallic wool tape formed into a plurality of spirally wound rolls which are closely disposed face to face to form a cyinder and each of which, with the exception of one end roll, is interconnected to an adjacent roll by the continuous tape which extends without slack from the exterior convolution of a roll to the innermost convolution of an adjacent roll.
