l My invention relates to improvements in window construction and more particularly to a ventilator type of window structure.
The object of my invention is to provide a lsealed window that is equipped with an integrally constructed ventilator unit.
Another object of my invention is to provide a sealing means for the ventilator unit when stationary louvres are employed.
Still another object of my invention is to provide a self-adjusting means for automatically closing'the outer louvres when the inner door of the Ventilating unit is closed.
.A still further object of my invention is to provide a means for furnishing ventilation without laltering the window arrangement.
It will be manifest to anyone familiar with the art .that the device as shown, described and,
claimed herein may be applied to windows that are constructed of a single or double pane arrangement, or used in connection with a storm sash and may be employed to provide air circulation for Ventilating purpose with any type of sealed window.
Other and further objects of my invention will become more apparent as the description proceeds and when taken in conjunction with the drawing in which Figure 1 is a front or outside view of the entire device.
Figure 2 is a cross-sectional view of the assembled device employing stationary louvres taken at the line 2-2 in Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary cross-sectional top view of the device as shown in Figure l.
Figure 4 is a fragmentary cross-sectional view of the tenen arrangement between the panes of glass, and
Figure 5 is a fragmentary cross-sectional view of the ventilator compartment, showing a spring supported around a link arrangement for adjusting the louvres at the outside of the Ventilating unit when the inner door is opened or closed.
Similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and referring now to the same, the character I0 shows an outer frame structure into which the panes of glass shown as II and I I are inserted. Obviously, a single glass may be used, or a plurality of panes may be employed. The panes of 3 Claims. (Cl. 98-88) p frame proper. This sill I2 is shown covered in part by an inside trim shown as I3 if desired.
The lower portion of the frame I 0 belowthe sill I2 is in the form of an enclosure I4 which constitute a Ventilating unit yand is open Iat its inner and outer face, and integrally constructed with the =frame III. rIlhe enclosure I4 in Figures 1 and 2 is shown having a front plate I5 provided with integrally constructed louvres I6. This plate I5 is attached to the outer face of the enclosure by means of screws or in any other vconvenient manner. The Ventilating unit or enclosure I4 is provided with a hinged door shown as I'I on the inside thereof, which can be adjusted to suit the convenience of the user.
Although the louvres I6 as shown in Figure 1 and Figure 2 are stationary, to be used in conjunction with a separately operated hinged door I'I, which may be placed in either an open or closed position, the Ventilating unit or enclosure I4 may be equipped with adjustable louvres actuated by the door I1 as shown in Figure 5, in which a telescopic link arrangement consisting of a tube I9 slidably engaging a tube I9' has a resilient member 22 having its ends disposed between'and contacting outwardly projection collars forming a part of the tubes I 9 and I9. The one end of the tube I9 is pivotally connected to a vertical rod I8 at 2| which vertical rod I8 is pivotally connected to the louvre I6 at I8' and the louvre I6 in Figure 5 are shown pivotally mounted at I6 to the vertical supports forming a part of the opening of the Ventilating unit or enclosure I4.
It will also be manifest to anyone familiar With window construction that the arrangement as shown and specied would permit a sealed and air tight window structure and would provide a device that is depending entirely on the ventilating unit I4 for the circulating of air from the inside to the outside o1' vice versa, depending on the angle at which the door II is set. It is also possible to arrange the hinge 23 on the door I1 so that it would be at the top of the Ventilating unitY I4 in which case the door I'I would open in the opposite direction from what is shown in Figures 2 and 5 respectively.
Although I have shown a specic type of construction, I am fully cognizant of the fact that many changes in the form and configuration of the structure may be made without eiecting its operativeness, and I reserve the right to make such changes as I may deem necessary or convenient without departing from the spirit of my invention or the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent in the United States is:
1. A Window construction of the character described comprising a rectangular frame, panes of glass inserted within said frame, a ventilating compartment integrally constructed within said frame forming a compartment open at its outer and inner face, a plate disposed along the open outer face,- of said compartment; said plate providedv with a plurality of louvers pivotally mounted therein, a door forming an enclosure for the inner opening of said Ventilating compartment, said door hingedly supported-by said,
frame, and means for adjusting said door to open or close the opening on the-'inner face of said compartment, a link member, saidlinkmem.- ber having one end supported by said door and another end supported by said louvers whereby the degree of opening of the louvers is automaticallyv regulated by -the'degree ofopening oi, said (DDIL.
2. A device of the character described comprising in combination a rectangular window frame, a plurality of panes of glass inserted within said frame, thereby closing the entire area of said frame, a sill portion inserted horizontally Within said frame at a point above the -bottom thereof, said sill and bottom of said frame forming a Ventilating enclosureintegrally constructed With said frame, said enclosure open at'its outer and inner face, a plate disposed across the open outer face of said Ventilating compartment, said plateprovided with a plurality of hingedly supported louvers horizontally disposed within said plate, a door member for closing the inner open- 4ingl of said Ventilating compartment, said door hingedly attached to said frame, a link member attached to said hingedly supported louvers and said door, said link member pivotally attached tov-said: louvers and, said door; to provide. actuation of, said. louvers when said. door isV actuated, and a resilient, means. disposed around saidk link member to compensate for Variation in. adjustment. oi said door and, louvers, in relation to. one.
