GAS BOTTLE RACK FOR TRAILERS Original Filed May 14, 194
I L mum I INVENTOR Leo bnesucmuu BY H49 ATTORNEYS Patented May 19, 1953 Leo B. Obehchain, Branford, Conn.
Original application May 14, 1948, Serial No.
1951, Serial No. 231,883
3 Claims. 1
This application is a division of my application Serial No. 27,010, filed May 14, 1948, now forfeited, and has to do with an invention relat ing to a support for gas bottles.
An object of the present invention is to provide a support for gas bottles which is suitable for mounting on a trailer and which includes a means for locking the bottles in position to prevent removal thereof.
Another object of the invention is to provide a support for gas bottles which is simple in construction, and easy to install upon a trailer,
Further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following description and claims, and from the accompanying drawing, wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective view with parts broken away in section, of the forward portion of a trailer coach provided with a gas bottle supporting structure according to the present invention and showing a pair of gas bottles mounted there- Figure 2 is a top plan View of the gas bottle supporting structure according to the present invention.
Figure 3 is an enlarged fragmentary crosssectional detail view taken on the line 33 of Figure 2.
Referring to the drawing, II designates a conventional trailer coach having the usual front tongue structure I2. Bolted to the tongue I2 is a horizontal base plate I3 to which is rigidly secured the spaced annular upstanding ring members I4, I4 adapted to receive the annular bottom flanges I5 of a pair of conventional gas bottles IS, IS as shown in Figure 1. The gas bottles are provided with the usual top neck portions IT, IT.
The base plate I3 may be secured to the tongue structure I2 by means of any fastening means, not shown.
Secured to the base plate I3 intermediate the ring members I4, I4 is an upstanding vertical bar member I9 which is formed adjacent its top end with a rearwardly extending horizontal arm 20. overlying the bottle neck portions I1, I1 of the bottles IB, I6 is a flanged top cover member 2I which is provided with a slot 22 through which projects an upstanding apertured tab 23 formed on the top end of the bar member IS. The top cover member H has secured to the inside surface of its rear depending flange portion a connecting means or vertical channel bracket 24, each side flange of said bracket being formed with a vertical slot 25. The end of the arm 20 is received between the flanges of bracket 24 and secured Divided and this application June 15,
to said end is a transverse pin 26 whose ends are slidably received in the vertical slots 25 of said flanges. A diagonal brace bar 32 connects the end of arm 20 with bar member I9, increasing the rigidity of said arm with respect to said bar. To lock the cover member 2| against upward movement, the ha-sp of a suitable padlock 28 may be engaged in the aperture 29 of the tab 23. To lift the cover member 2|, padlock 28 is removed and the cover member may then be raised, the slots 25 allowing the cover member to be raised sufiiciently to release the depending peripheral flange of the cover member from engagement with the bottle neck portions l1, ll of the as bottles I6, l6 mounted on the rin members I4, I4 of the plate member I3.
I claim:
1. A support for gas bottles comprising a base plate, a plurality of ring members secured to said base plate and each adapted to receive the base flange of a gas bottle, an upstanding bar member secured to said base plate, a horizontal arm positioned adjacent the upper end of said bar member and having one end secured to said bar member, a cover member provided with a depending peripheral flange positioned above said horizontal arm, there being an opening in said cover member slidably receiving the upper end of said bar member, said cover member being adapted to be placed over the top ends of the neck portions of gas bottles when positioned in said ring members, and a connecting means dependingly carried by said cover member and slidably receiving the other end of said arm.
2. A support for gas bottles comprising a base plate, a plurality of ring members secured to said base plate and each adapted to receive the base flange of a gas bottle, an upstanding bar member secured to said base plate, a horizontal arm positioned adjacent the upper end of said bar member and having one end secured to said bar member, a cover member provided with a depending peripheral flange positioned above said horizontal arm, there being an opening in said cover member slidably receiving the upper end of said bar member, said cover member being adapted to be placed over the top ends of the neck portions of gas bottles when positioned in said ring members, a horizontally disposed pin carried by the other end of said arm, and a. bracket dependingly carried by said cover member and slidably receiving said pin.
3. A support for gas bottles comprising a base plate. a plurality of ring members secured to said base plate adapted to receive the base flanges 0t the gas bottles, a vertical upstanding bar member secured to said base plate, a cover member provided with a. depending peripheral flange, said cover member being adapted to be placed over the top ends of the neck portions of the bottles and being formed with an opening, an apertured tab carried at the top end of said bar member and projecting through said openinz, a horizontal arm carried by the upper portion of said bar member, a, hinge pin secured to the end of said arm, and a channel shaped bracket secured to said cover member and receiving the endof said arm, the sides of said bracket being formed with 4 vertical slots slidably receiving the ends of said hinge pin.
