GEORGE J. GLINE, OF GOSHEN, INDIANA.
CLOTHES-WRINGER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 263,860, dated September 5, 1882.
Application filed May 510, 1882. gNo model.)
To all whom 'lt may concern:
Be it known that I', GEORGE J. OLINE, a citizen ofthe United States, and a resident of Goshen, in the county ot' Elkhart and State of Indiana, haveinvented a new and valuable Iinprovementin Olothes-XVringers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description ot' the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a partof this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 is a Vertical sectional View. Fig. 2 is a detail View. Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional view, and Fig. 4 is a side elevation.
This invention has relation to clotheswringers; and it consists in the construction and novel arrangement of parts, as will be herenafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, the letter A designates the horizontal side bars ofthe supporting-frame, and B the end supports there-` of, having the cross-bars G.
D' D indicate the stationary uprights or arms, which are securedto the side bars, A, at
about their middle portions, and are provided at their upper ends with the bearing-apertures a, forthe journalsbof the lowerroller, E. Side flanges or guides, F, are also provided at each side of each upright D, to embrace the reciprocatin g upright side bars, G, and assist in keep ing the same in proper position. v
The side bars, G G, are slotted at h for the passage of a guide screw or pin, c, which is provided with a broad bearing, d, and serves to hold the side bar, G, in proper relation to the upright D.
An upper slot, e, in each sidebar, G, permits the passage ofthe end of thejourna] b of the lower roller, as indicated in the' drawings. To one of saidjournals b the operating-handle H is connected.
The upper end of each side bar,"G, is provided with a bearing-box, k, preferabl y pivoted and formed with an aperture, a', for the journal b' of the upper roller, E'.
To the lower end of the side bars, G, are
| pivoted the ends of the transverse connectingbar K. t
Engaging a bearin g, l, secured to the crossbar C at one end of the frame or support, is arranged one end of along spring-bar or springpole, L, which extends by its middle portion over the upper edge or top of the connectingbar K, on which it hears, as indicated at m. The other end of the spring-pole extends over the opposite cross-bar O at the other end of the irame and engages a catch, N, thereon, having a series ot' engaging notches or bearings, n arranged over each other in Vertical succession, and adapted to increase or lessen the tension of the springbar according to the notch or bearing with which-its end is connected.
By means of the adjust-able spring-pole, the transverse hearingconnection K, and the recprocating side bars, G G, the tension on the upper roller can be easily and conveniently ad justed to suit the work.
The transverse barK being pivoted, as well as the bearing blocks or boxes Ic, provision is made for the passage of goods of unequal thickness, the upper roller having an easy rocking rising and falling movement to suit the exi .gencics of such work. i
Having described this invention, what I` claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
In a wringing-machine, the conbination, With the stationary nprightsupports D, ofthe lower roller, E, the longitudinal spring-pole L, its end bearing, l, and adjustable end catch, N, of the reciprocating side bars, G, carrying at their upper ends the pivoted bearings Ic of the upper roller, E', and the transverse bearing-bar K, pivoted to the lower ends of said side bars and connecting the same, substantially as Specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto Subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE J. CLINE, Witnesses:
