The invention relates to lamp attachments for creepers to assist mechanics in servicing of motor vehicles.

It is an object of the invention to provide an attachment applicable to existing creepers.

Further objects of the invention are to provide a iight holder adapted to hold a light to cause illumination in any desired direction; embodying a standard slidable along one margin of a Creeper; whereby the light may be freely placed in the desired location by a mere movement of the light; whereby the apparatus may be folded into a compact location when not wanted for use; whereby the lamp of an ordinary extension cord and lamp base may be utilized for light-no wiring connections being required by the attachment itself.

Further objects of the invention will appear from the following description when read with the accompanying drawings showing an illustrative embodiment of the invention and wherein:

Fig. 1 is a plan view of a portion of a creeper with an attachment of the invention shown in plan, erected and ready for use;

Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the structure of Fig. l as seen from the right;

Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 2 but with the light standard folded;

Fig. 4 is a detail side elevation of the structure of Fig. 1; and

Fig. 5 is a vertical transverse section on line 5-5 of Fig. 1.

For purpose of illustration the attachment of the invention is shown in place upon a creeper In of a common form, shown as comprising side frame members II, I2, an end frame member I3, a padded head-rest I4, castors I5 and a bed member I6 upon which a mechanic may lie. Only the portion of the creeper to which the attachment is shown applied as illustrated.

As shown, the attachment comprises an angle member I'I for attachment to the frame of the creeper. To support the frame of the attachment by angle I1, two members I8, I9 are shown as riveted to the angle I'I. For combined lightness and stiffness the members I8, I9 are desirably formed, as shown, of channel shape.

For support of the light holder movably along the chosen side of the Creeper frame, there is shown a member 2!) also indicated as form of a channel shape, which member is shown as secured by rivets at each of its ends to the ends of the members i8, I9 in spaced relation to the frame member I3 oi the creeper.

For support of the light holder slidably on member 2D, an inverted channel clip 2| is shown embracing the member 20 and having outturned margins 22, 23 to which there is shown a plate 24 secured by bolts 25 to the margins 22, 23. The assembly 2 I, 24 is made to have an easy sliding t on the member 20.

For support of a lamp holder upon plate 24 there is shown a base member 26 secured by a stud bolt 21 to plate 24 and formed with a Tlattened portion 28 to receive a pair of spaced lugs 29 pivotally mounted on the base 26.

The ears 22 are carried by a rigid post carrying at its free end a flexible lamp carrying member SiS to the outer end of which there is shown a plate 3l, revoluble about the axis of the member 3B.

To carry the handle 32 of a usual form of garage lamp 33, for ready attachment to and removal from the plate 3|, the plate is shown as equipped with a pair of clips 34.

To receive the terminus 35 of the portion 30 when folded to the position of Fig. 3, a clip 36 is shown secured at an end of the member 20.

The external diameters of the base 26 and of post 30 are shown as equal. To hold the post in vertical position there is shown a sleeve 3l .freely slidable on the post and over the base, to prevent pivotal movement of the

28, 29 when slid to the position of Fig. 2.

With the parts in the folded position of Fig. 3 and a lamp in the clips 34, the user may propel the creeper to the scene of operation, whereupon ythe standard may be moved to vertical and the flexible portion 30 moved to the position to direct the light as desired-all with one movement, the sleeve sliding by gravity to post locking position. The lamp will be held in the desired position leaving both hands of mechanic free,

Minor changes may be made in the physical embodiment of the invention within the scope of the appended claim without departing from the spirit of the invention.

I claim:

A lamp holding device comprising in combination a lamp holder carrying member, a Creeper frame, an angle member attached to said creeper frame, a pair of supports projecting from said angle member, said lamp holder carrying member being secured to said supports, a lamp holder longitudinally slidable on said carrying member, means pvotally attaching a lamp supporting post to said lamp holder for movement between horizontally folded and upright positions, means for preventing movement of said f 3 post about said pivot While the post is in upright Number position, flexible lamp carrying means carried by 543,328 said post, and means for mounting a, lamp on 992,756 said flexible means. 1,169,496 5 1,313,961 LEO E.
