The body member has a recess 2li at one corner thereof opening through both the end and the base of the body member. Oppositely disposed wall portions 2| and 22 of the body member form the sides of the recess 20. The wall portions 2| and 22 have key-hole slots 2|a and 22a therein positioned with the rounded portions thereof near the end of the body member and with the narrow rectangular portions thereof extending away from said end, as best shown in Figs. 1 and 4. An axle member 25 is mounted in the slots 2|a and 22a and extends between the wall portions 2| and 22, said axle member having at least its bearing portions formed with a rectangular, transverse cross section (see Fig. 4) and being rotatable in the rounded portions thereof and slidable longitudinally of the body member li) in the narrow rectangular portions of the slots.
The reamer has a reaming portion comprising a wedge-shaped blade 26 with ears 2l and 28, adapted to be grasped for manipulation of the reamer, bent at right angles to the blade near the base thereof, and a locking portion comprising a pair of L-shaped projections 3i! and 3| extending axially of the reamer in the opposite direction from the blade. The projections 30 and 3| are nonrotatably mounted on the axle member 25 in the recess 20 closely adjacent the wall portions 2| and 22, so that the reamer may be pivoted between an inoperative position, shown in solid lines in Fig. 1, and an operative position shown in broken lines in Fig. 1.
A leaf spring 35 is mounted on the outside of the end wall |2a of the body member by means of a stud 36, and the spring extends down into In order to increase the tension of the spring, a tensioning member 37 also is secured by the stud and overlies the spring throughout a portion of its length. The spring constantly urges the axle member 25 toward the narrow portion of the slots.
At the bottom of the recess 20, the body member is provided with a U-shaped channel to receive the projections 33 and 3| when the axle member 25 is in the narrow portion of the keyhole slots as illustrated. This channel is shown best in Fig. 6 and comprises a base or connecting groove 38 and grooves 33 and 40 forming the arms of the U-shaped channel and opening through the base |2b of the body member It. Above the base 38 of the channel (speaking with respect to the parts when in the position of Fig. 1) is a shoulder 4| formed by locating the base groove 38 of the U-shaped channel downwardly from the upper wall of the recess. The space above this shoulder 4| gives clearance for the portions 33 and 3| of the locking part of the reamer when the reamer is pivoted into and out of operative position.
The tool is normally carried with the reamer in inoperative position as shown in Fig. 1. When it is desired to move the reamer to operative posi- 'tion, shown .in broken lines in Fig. 1 and in solid lines in Fig. 4, it is only necessary to impart rotation to the reamer, no manual longitudinal shifting of the reamer being necessary. In such rotational movement of the reamer, the corners a of the projections 30 and 3i bear against the bottoms of the grooves 39 and 4i! and serve to cam the axle member 25 outwardly of the rectangular portion of the key-hole slots into the rounded portion thereof. This camming action is made possible because there is nothing to restrain outward movement of the corners b of the projections. Once the axle member 25 is in the circular portion of the key-hole slots it and the reamer are free to rotate until the edges c of the projections strike the shoulder 4|. Because of slight play created by a difference in the width of the axle member 25 and the diameter of the rounded portion of the key-hole slots, continued rotation of the reamer after the edges c have contacted the shoulder il results inV a further cam action moving the axle member 25 outwardly very slightly to provide sufficient clearance to permit the edges c to slip past the shoulder 4| and into the base groove 38 of the channel. Once the edges c are'past the shoulder lli, the spring 35 forces the projections 3|) and 3| into the channel and the axle member 25 into the rectangular portion of the keyhole slots for the axle member 25 now is positioned with its width extending parallel with the rectangular portions of the keyhole slots.
The camming action above described for the corners a of the projections 33 and 3| is obtained because the distance from the corners a to the axle member 25 is greater than the distance from the inner ends of the key-hole slots to the portion of the wall engaged by the corners a as the blade is swung from inoperative to operative position. This construction of the projections 30, 3| and the camming action that results has a second purpose or function, namely, that of tending to retain the reamer blade in inoperative position.
In contrast to the swinging of the reamer from inoperative to operative position solely by application of a force rotating the reamer about its axle member, return of the reamer from operative toinoperative position can be eiected only after the reamer is first shifted longitudinally against the action of the spring 35 and in a direction opposite to the reaction of the reamer during a reaming operation. This longitudinal shifting of the reamer is readily accomplished by grasping the ears 2l and 28 b-etween the thumb and index or middle finger, applying la longitudinally outward pull, and then following through with a rotational movement of the reamer.
The camming action obtained at the start of the movement of the reamer from inoperative to operative position is not obtained. This is believed due to the fact that the shoulder 1HV blocksV movement of the edges c when the corners d on the projections 33 and 3| attempt to'cam the axle member 25 outwardly. Stated another way, the edges c are not free to move in an outward arc as were the corners b. Only after the corners c have by longitudinal movement ofthe reamer cleared the shoulder 4I is the reamer free for swinging to inoperative position. Under these circumstances,

`reamer comprising a body member having spaced projections and areamercomprising a` reaming bladeand `a pair of` L -shaped projectionsat' the endoppositesaid blade withthe latter receivable between the projections onsaid` body memben said reamer` having an jinoperative position wherein 'said blade overlies said body member to receive protection from, the. body member and an operative position wherein said" blade projects `outwardly-trom said body member,` locking means comprising key-hole slots inthe projections of said body Amember` having theirl rectangular ends directed inwardly toward said body member, an axle member extending laterally of said L -shaped projections of said reamer nonrotatably fixed in said projections and having portions of rectangular crossl section engaging said key-hole slots, the rectangular portions having a thickness enabling the same tobe received in the rectangularpor` tions of said key-hole slots and a width slightly smaller than the diameter of the rounded portions of said key-hole slots, spring means urging the axle-forming member toward the rectangular end of said key-hole slots, and a U-shaped channel in said body member adapted to receive the L-shaped projections of said reamer when in operative position.
2. In a combination tube working tool and reamer comprising a body member having a base, an end and a recess opening through both the end and the base at the intersection thereof, wall portions of said body member forming the sides of the recess, said Wall portions having key-hole slots therein positioned with rounded portions thereof near said end and narrow portions extending away from said end, an axle member mounted in said slots and extending between said Wall portions, said axle member having a portion of rectangular transverse cross section at each end engaging said slots and being rotatable in the enlarged portions thereof and slidable longitudinally of said body member in the narrow portions of said slots, and a reaming portion, a locking portion comprising L-shaped projections xedly mounted on said axle member in said recess adiacent said wall portions, said reamer being pivotally movable between inoperative position wherein said reaming portion overlies said body member and operative position wherein said reaming portion projects from said end of the body member, said body member having a U- shaped channel in said recess adapted to receive said L-shaped projections when said axle member is in the narrow portions of said slots to lock the reamer in operative position.

In a combination tube working tool and reamer comprising an elongated body member adapted to be held in the hand of a workman, said body member having a recess opening through one end and the base of said body member at a corner thereof, wall portions of said body member deiining sides of said recess, each of said wall portions having a key-hole slot therein positioned with the circular portion outermost; and the rectangular portionaextendingiinfwar'dly, anf axle, member lmounted.. infsaidrr slots,

`4. -In combination, a tool ebodyand aerea-mer pivotally mounted thereon, said tool body having a base, an end, and a recess opening through both the end and the base at the intersection thereof, wall portions of said body forming the sides of the recess, one wall of said recess having formed therein near the inner edge thereof an outwardly opening, transversely extending channel, each of said wall portions having an elongated slot therein extending at right angles to said channeled wall and positioned outwardly of said channeled wall and outwardly of the channel in said channeled wall, said reamer comprising a iiat blade having a reaming portion and a mounting and locking portion, projections extending laterally of said blade from the mounting portion thereof adapted to be receivable between the wall portions of said body forming the sides of the recess, an axle member carried by said projections and extending at its vends into the elongated slots in said wall portions to permit of rotational as well as limited bodily movement of said reamer blade, a rearward extension of said reamer blade receivable with a snug t in the channel in the recess wall when theblade is swung to operative position projecting outwardly from the tool body, and spring means mounted on said tool body and engaging said reamer to urge the same with its axle member at the inner end of said elongated slots.

In combination, a tool body and a reamer wherein said reamer has an inoperative position overlying said tool body to receive protection from the body and an operative position wherein it projects outwardly from said tool body, said tool body having a base, an end, and a recess opening through both the end and the base at the intersection thereof, wall portions of said body forming the sides of the recess, one wall of said recess having formed therein an outwardly opening, transversely extending channel, each of said wall portions having an elongated slot therein extending at right angles to said channeled wall and positioned outwardly of said channeled wall and at least as far outwardly of ceivable with a snug fit in the channel in the recess Wall when the blade is swung to operative position projecting outwardly from the tool body,
.and spring means mounted on said tool body and engaging said reamer to urge the same with its axle member at the inner end of said elongated slots, said lateral projections extending outwardly from said reamer blade beyond said axle member and forwardly from said axle member a distance such that the point of each projection most remote from said axle member is spaced therefrom by a distance greater than that between the inner end of each elongated slot and -the channeled wall of the recess.
6. A pipe burring reamer for mounting in a recess in a tool body comprising a blade having an operative portion and a locking portion, an axle secured to the blade spaced laterally of the plane of the blade for mounting the blade in the recess, said tool body recess having sides with elongated openings therein to receive the end portions of the axle to permit swinging movement and longitudinal movement of the blade relative to the tool body, said locking portion including a rearward extension of said blade, said tool body having a channel for receiving and closely embracing said rearward extension when the blade is extended outwardly from the tool body in operative position, a spring bearing against the axle to yieldingly urge the same inwardly of said elongated openings, and laterally projecting means on the axle side of said blade and forwardly of said axle in position to engage the tool body and cam said axle outwardly in said elongated opening as said blade is swung from inoperative to operative position.
