Description

Jan. 20, 1953 A. c. SIDES PHONOGRAPH RECORD CABINET CONSTRUCTION Filed Feb. 10 1951 INVENTOR.
Patented Jan. 20, 1953 OFFICE PHONOGRAPH RECORD CABINET CONSTRUCTION Augustus Caesar Sides, New York, N. Y. Application February 10, 1951, Serial No. 210,316
1 Claim. 1
This invention relates to a phonograph record cabinet construction.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a phonograph record cabinet wherein the records are made accessible by a simple pivoting outwardly of a holder section and wherein the rear end of the section is provided with rollers and within the cabinet is an arcuate shaped guide in which the rollers may travel and wherein the movement of the section is held in the two positions, either within the cabinet or in its pulled out position by the guide.
Other objects of the present invention are to provide a phonograph record cabinet structure which is simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, has a minimum number of parts, compact, of pleasing appearance and eflicient in operation.
For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the cabinet structure with illustration made as to how the record section is pulled outwardly thereof to make accessible a record.
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary vertical sectional view taken generally on line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view taken generally. on line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of one of the record sections removed from the cabinet frame.
Fig. 5, is a fragmentary sectional view taken on line 5-5 of Fig. 2.
Referring now to the figures, Ill represents a cabinet frame having side pieces II and I2 and between the lower ends of which there extends a pivot rod l3 for the several sections l4 adapted to contain records I5. The ends of the rod l3 are held in inserts l6 and I1 fixed within the respective side frame pieces II and I2.
Each of the sections includes a front piece l8 having a knob l9 thereon, a bottom piece 2| from which depends pivot brackets 22 secured to side plates 23 and 24 respectively and through which the rod 13 extends. Spaced between the side plates 23 and 24 are partitions 25 to provide spaces for the several records l5. These partitions 25 are cut away at 26 so as to permit the fingers to grip the records in order to remove them from the spaces between the partitions 25.
Also depending from the side portions 23 and 24 and from the bottom 2| are respectively brackets 21 having respectively guide pulleys 28 operable over guide rails 29 laterally spaced from one another and confined within the cabinet. These rails have stop portions 3! and 32 at the opposite ends of the same. The rails are arcuate and subscribe an arc with the rod I3 axis being the pivot point. As the knob I9 is pulled, the section is moved in and out, as illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2, and the pulley wheels or rollers 28 will come to rest either against the stop portion 3] when the section is within the cabinet, or against the stop portion 32 when the section is out of the cabinet. When the section is against the stop portion 32, the weight of the records is suflicient to hold the section pulled from the cabinet [0. Each rail 29 is carried on a wood plate or bracket 33 fitted within the cabinet and secured thereto. Above the sections M are the usual doors 34 and 35 which will provide access to the phonograph.
It will be apparent that there can be any number of sections disposed on the rod and in the manner as shown, depending upon the width of the cabinet.
While various changesmay be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claim.
Having thus set forth and disclosed the nature of my invention, what is claimed is:
A phonograph record cabinet structure comprising a cabinet with side frame pieces, a pivot rod extending between the said side frame pieces, a plurality of sections adapted to contain records, disposed in the said cabinet in side-byside arrangement, each of the said sections having in its closed position within the said cabinet a vertical front wall and a horizontal bottom Wall, a bracket disposed adjacent the lower end of the said front wall and the front end of the said bottom wall of each section for pivot connection with the said pivot rod, a second bracket being disposed adjacentthe rear end of the said horizontal wall of the said section, the said second bracket carrying guide rollers, a plurality 01' brackets disposed in the rear portion of the said cabinet, a plurality of arcuate-shaped guide rails carried by the said last-mentioned brackets and disposed oppositely the said guide rollers of the respective sections, the said guide rollers moving along the said guide rails upon turning the said section upon the pivot rod from closed into open position for removal of a record, abutment portions on the respective ends of the said guide rail for limiting the opening and closing movement, respectively, of each of the said sections, and the said pivot rod supporting each of the said sections in closed as well as open position.
