This invention relates to improvements in key tags and the like.

It is a primary object of the invention to provide a key tag which, among a variety of other uses, is particularly adapted to mark the keys of apartments or hotel rooms, or buildings listed with real estate firms, the tag comprising fully exposed means identifying the address to which the key pertains, and readily replaceable when the tag is employed to identify a different address. 7

Other and more specific objects will be better apparent in the light of the following disclosure of the invention.

My improved tag comprises a base sheet 4, apertured to receive the key chain '5, whereby key 6 is connected to the tag. The screw 1, threaded to a nut 8 in the base sheet 4, passes through cover sheet 9 and a tablet of separable address slips I0, all of which are apertured to receive the screw and engaged thereon as shown in Fig. 2. The cover sheet 9 is preferably slightly shorter than the base sheet 4 but of approximately the same width. It is slotted at H to expose the tablet sheet H) which is uppermost. Through the slot any desired data, such as the address indicated in the drawings, may be written in pencil or ink on the exposed top sheet of the tablet.

The cover sheet 9 projects beyond the tablet and is provided with snap fastener element I2 for which the base 4 carries a complementary element such as that shown at B in Figure 3. The device of Figure 3 is identical with that shown in Figure l and Figure 2 save for the fact that in the Figure 3 construction the base is provided with a slot at [4 like the slot ll of the cover. Where this construction is employed there is not quite so much support as is provided by the imperforate base 4 for the last sheets of the pad or tablet. However, the slotted base 40 permits other notations, such as the name of the real estate firm, to be written on the lowermost sheet of the pad.

When it is desired to substitute a different address for that originally written on the top leaf of the pad, it is only necessary, in either construction, to unsnap the fastener element 12, thereby permitting the cover 8 to be swung outwardly upon the pivot provided by screw 1. Thereupon the top leaf N) may readily be pulled from screw 1, leaving a fresh leaf exposed on which the new address may be written. The lowest leaf of the pad may be removed with equal facility in order to change the data exposed through slot l4 in base 40. Where the entire pad must be replaced, the screw 1 is removed and threaded through the registering openings of a new pad of sheets.

The base and cover may conveniently be made of fiber, of plastic, or of metal.

I claim:

1. A device of the character described comprising an elongated base member provided at one of its ends with means for connecting the base member to a device requiring identification, a pivot at the other end of the base member, a cover member shorter than the base member, whereby to expose said means, said pivot comprising a nut embedded in one of said members, a screw passing through the other of said members and engaged in the nut, said screw and nut being located near corresponding ends of the respective members, snap fastener elements embedded in the opposite ends of the respective members from the pivot and engaged in releasable eonnection, and a pad of paper sheets confined between said members and having apertures threaded upon such screw, the sheets of the pad being otherwise free and at least one of said members being windowed to expose a sheet of said pad.

2. The device set forth in claim 1, in which both of said members are windowed.

3. A tag comprising the combination with an elongated base member having an apertured exposed end portion provided with means passing through the aperture for connection with a device to be identified, of an elongated cover member superimposed on the base member and shorter than the base member whereby to expose the apertured end of the base member, a nut imbedded in the base member beneath one end of the cover member, a screw stud passing through said end of the cover member and engaged in the nut of the base member, snap fastener elements respectively mounted in the other ends of the respective members for the quickly releasable connection thereof, and a pad of sheets having apertures engaged on said screw stud and confined between said members, one of the members being windowed to expose a sheet of said pad and the said stud and fastener elements and aperture being substantially aligned longitudinally of said members.
