This invention relates to a lighmd yo-yo;
It is an object of the present invention to provide a yo-yo which is lighted and which will display two circles of light as the yo-yo body is worked on the string and wherein the light elements are turned on by a centrifugal switch which is moved in one direction when the yo-yo turns in one direction and which is moved in another direction when the yo-yo is turned in am other direction and wherein lights will appear from the opposite sides of the yo -yo.
Other objects of the resent invention are to provide a lighted yo-yo and switch therefor which is of simple construction, inexpensive to manufacture, has a minimum number of parts, of pleasing appearance, compact, durable, where the battery can be replaced by a simple operation, formed of transparent plastic to properly display the lighted bulbs and eflicient in operation.
For other objects and for a. better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the followin detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. l is a perspective View of the yo-yo in use and lighted to give the proper effect.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged vertical sectional View taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary, perspective and collective view of the body of the yo-yo with the covers removed and a display of the switch parts.
Fig. 4 is a wiring diagram of the light circuit.
Referring now to the figures, iii represents a central yo-yo body having a deep groove i! in which yo-yo string i2 will operate. On the opposite faces of this body it covers It and 14, having involute patterns are respectively fitted. In the center of the body H3 is an opening through which battery it extends to be supported.

A contact 35 engages the contact end of the lamp bulb and extends across the surface of the body and downwardly, as indicated by the downwardly extending portion for engagement by a screw 3'] on a projection or enlargement 38 on the opposite face of the yo-yo. The portion 36 of the contact 35 extends through the hole in the center of the yo-yo.
Also connected by the screw 3? for pivotal displacement on the projection 38 is a retaining arm contact 39 which engages with positive terminal ii of the battery it and the outer end of which lies under an upstanding contact portion 32 of the contact strip lt secured to the opposite face of the body and which extends for engagement with the end of a lamp bulb 44 at that side of the yo-yo body. This lamp bulb 44 is similarly held on that side of the body by engagement with an abutment, not shown, and which is held by a spring contact projection 45 that extends from contact plate 2i and through the hole in the center of the body.
The arm 22 will be operated by centrifugal force and will move first against projection 26 when the yc-yo is rotated in one direction and then against projection 25 when the yo-yo is rotated in the opposite direction.
It will be seen that the battery is fixedly retained within the body and consumes little space. By a mere removal of the contact arm 39 from the portion 42 of the contact strip 43, the battery can be lifted from the opening in the body. When the yo-yo is out of use and lying flat, the spring 23 will centralize the arm so that there is no contact with either projection 25 or 25, Fig. 2, and thus automatically the lamp bulbs will be put out of use. Centrifugal action will only operate the arm 22.
It will be seen from the circuit shown in Fig. 4 that the lamp bulbs are in parallel circuit relation with each other and with the battery 16 and the weighted switch arm 22 engagable with either of the contacts 25 or 26 of the contact strip 21. The weighted arm 22 will engage contact 25 as the yo-yo rotates in one direction and with the other contact it will be engaged when the yo-yo rotates in the opposite direction. Beginning with the battery l6 current passes through contacts or pivotal retaining member 39, contact strip 43, lamp bulb 44, lamp bulb 33 through contact strip 3 35, contact member 27 engaging both lamp bulbs 33 and 44, contact 25 or 25, Weighted arm 22, contact strip I9 and back to battery i6.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
1. A lighted yo-yo construction comprising a main body having a deep groove, a yc-yo string extending from the groove, said yo-yo body having a central opening, a battery extending through the central opening, a contact strip extending over the central opening on one side of the yo-yo body and serving as a contact for the battery, a retaining contact member pivotally connected to the opposite side of the yo-yo body and engaging with the opposite end of the battery, a fastener contact for receiving the retaining contact member, lamp bulb means carried on the yo-yo body, a contact member on the yo-yo body in circuit with the lamp bulb means and battery and having two contact projections, a weighted swingable contact arm spring biased to a neutral position and adapted to engage either one of the two contact projections upon the yo-yo being operated, but adapted to be centralized when the yo-yo is out of operation whereby to de-energize the lamp circuit.
2. A lighted yo-yo structure comprising a yo-yo body having a deep groove therein, a yo-yo string extending from the groove, said yo-yo body having a central opening, a battery extending through the central opening, a contact strip extending over the opening at one side of the 0-3 0 body, a switch arm pivotally connected to the contact strip, said switch arm being weighted and adapted to be operated by centrifugal action, biasing means for normally holding said weighted switch arm in a neutral position when the yo-yo is not in use, a contact member having two circumferentially-spaced contact projections extending from the same and adapted to be engaged by the weighted switch arm depending upon the direction in which the yo-yo body is rotated, said contact member having other projections thereon one of which extends through the opening in the yo-yo body, the ends of said projections being bent up to respectively provide holding contacts, lamp bulbs respectively disposed under the respective holding contacts of the ends of the projections of the contact member, abutment means on the yo-yo body associated with each of the lamp bulbs for retaining the lamp bulbs, a second contact strip extending from one terminal of one lamp bulb through the opening in the body and lying on the other side of the body, a retaining contact member pivotally connected to said second contact strip and engageable with a terminal of the battery, another contact strip engageable with the retaining contact member and leading into engagement with a terminal of the other lamp bulb.
