DEODORANT PACKAGE- OR THE LIKE Filed Dec. 14, 1950 f if TJ E.
f A jw/ Z 5 5 INVENTOR.
Patented Dec. 16, 1952 DEDDORANT PACKAGE OR THE LIKE John F. Bagley, .ln, South Hadley, Mass, assignor to Stanley Home Products, Inc., Westfield, Mass, a corporation of Massachusetts Application December 14, 1950, Serial No. 200,826
This invention relates to improvements in packages and is directed more particularly to a deodorant package or the like.
The principal object of the invention is the provision of a deodorant package or the like which is arranged for convenient storage and shipment as Well as for use.
While the invention will be described in connection with deodorant material or the like, it will be understood that it is applicable to other objects or materials as well.
According to the invention, a body of material enclosed in a sealed wrapper is provided with a socket and an opening therethrough and has an elongated suspension member disposed in the socket.
The wrapper or at least a part thereof may be removed from the body so that the elongated member is accessible and may be passed through the opening of the body and employed for suspending the body.
It is common practice to suspend bodies or cakes of deodorant material, moth repellants and the like for the emission of gases therefrom.
According to this invention, the wrapper or envelope encloses the cake in such a manner as to prevent the escape of gases therefrom while the elongated member packaged therewith provides a convenient means for suspending the cake when desired.
Thus there is provided a new and novel package which is easily and readily useable for the purpose intended.
All of the above objects I accomplish by means of such structure and relative arrangements of parts thereof, as will fully appear by a perusal of the description below and by various specific features which will be hereinafter set forth.
To the above cited and other ends and with the foregoing and various other novel features and advantages and other objects of my invention as will become more readily apparent as the description proceeds, my invention consists in certain novel features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more particularly pointed out in the claim hereunto annexed and more fully described and referred to in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein:
Fig. 1 is a plan view of a package embodying the novel features of the invention;
Fig. 2 is a side elevational view of the package shown in Fig. l with parts in section for clearness;
Fig. 3 is an inverted plan View of the package shown in Figs. 1 and 2; and
1 Claim. (Cl. 299-24) Fig. 4. is a plan view of a suspending member for the package shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
Referring now to the drawings more in detail, the invention will be fully described.
The package of the invention is represented generally by 2 and includes a cake or body 4, an envelope or wrapper 6 and a suspending member 8.
The cake 4 is a substantially rigid body formed from material characterized by its ability to emit gases for deodorizing, moth expelling, and other purposes.
It will be understood that the body may be an object of any other shape and may be formed from any desired material.
The body 4 at least on one side thereof is provided with a socket or depression 5 and an opening 1 extending through the body and in communication with the socket.
The envelope 6 will preferably be formed from material which is impervious to gases and odors of the cake and may consist of cellophane, glassine, or waxed paper or the like. Preferably the envelope will be transparent, at least sufficiently transparent so that the socket is visible therethrough.
A member 8 is disposed in the socket 5 and is in the form of an elongated strip arranged in the shape of a coil. Said member 8 will preferably consist of relatively small wire which is readily flexible and bendable and may be arranged ln the form of the coil 8 or coiled in other ways such as for example as shown at 8', in Fig. 4. The member 8 in the form of a coil occupies small space so as to be receivable in the socket.
The coiled member 8 in the socket will be visible through the envelope or wrapper when the same is somewhat transparent as is desired.
The wrapper snugly embraces the body and is folded at a side thereof with the overlapping portions secured by sealing in any well known manner.
As shown in Fig. 3, portions ID of the wrapper are in overlapping and sealed relation. By securing the overlapping portions the body is completely enveloped while the member 8 is visible when the wrapper is transparent.
The wrapper or a portion thereof may be re moved from the body so that the member 8 is accessible and said member 8 on being removed from the socket is readily uncoiled and passed through the opening 1 and employed to suspend or support the body in any desired location.
As will be observed, there is provided a package including a body or object which is enclosed in an envelope with said body having a socket in which is disposed an elongated suspension member readily accessible by removal of the wrapper or portion thereof.
The package is adapted for storage and shipping purposes and the body is not only protected but gases or odors are prevented from escaping therefrom while said body is easily and readily suspended by means carried thereby.
The invention may be embodied in other specific forms without departing from the essential characteristics thereof. Hence, the present embodiments are therefore to be considered in all respects merely as being illustrative and not as being restrictive, the scope of the invention being indicated by the appended claim rather than by the foregoing description, and'all modifications and variations as fall within the meaning nd purview and range of equivalency of the appended claim are therefore intended to be embraced therein.
What it is desired to claim and secure by Letters Patent of the United Statesis:
Asa new article of manufacture, a unitary moth repellent package comprising, a mothrepelling cake having opposite sides provided with an open-sided socket in one side thereof and an opening from the bottom of said cake through the opposite side thereof, said opening being relatively smaller in transverse dimension than said socket, a, transparent rupturable Wrapper enclosing said cake and closing said socket, and a flexible wire suspension member for extending through said socket and opening for suspending said cake from a support arranged in the form of a coil disposed in said socket and held therein by said wrapper.
