4 Claims.
This invention relates to dispensers and more particularly to a container which is provided with adjustable means for automatically measuring predetermined amounts of material to be poured from. the container, and which is adapted for use with granular, powdered, or llake soap or other fluent materials.
One object of this invention is to provide a device of the above nature in which the amount of material to be measured will be determined by the relationship of an adjustable baffle to a concave trough in the container.
Another object is to provide a device of the above nature in which the baille may be adjustably held in different positions by an interlocking relationship with the container cover.
A further object is to provide a device of the above nature which will be simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, easy to use and manipulate, adapted to protect and conserve its contents, ornamental in appearance, and very elcient and durable in use.
With these and other objects in view, there has been illustrated on the accompanying drawing one form in which the invention may conveniently be embodied in practice.

Referring now to the drawing, in which like reference numerals denote corresponding parts throughout the several views, the numeral I indicates a rectangular container which comprises side walls II, I2, end walls I3, I 4, and a bottom wall I5, said walls preferably being of a transparent plastic material and secured together by cement or Welding.
The interior of the container I0 is divided by a vertical rectangular partition baille I6 which is slidably supported in vertical grooves I1, I8 formed in the inner surfaces of the side walls II, I2, thus providing a main storage compartment I9 and a relatively narrow discharge chute 20 adjacent the end wall I3.
In order to control the amounts of material which will pass from the storage compartment I9 under the lower end of the baffle I6, and into the discharge chute 2B, provision is made of a trough 2I which is concave upwardly and extends between the side Walls II, I2. The trough 2I is secured to the side walls II, I2, and to the end wall I3 and bottom wall I5 in a nearly concentric relationship to the lower edge of the baille I6, this relationship'being variable however, because of the adjustability of said baille.
When the container Iil is in erect position, as shown in Fig. 4 for example, it will be seen that fluent material M in the storage compartment I9 will flow by gravity into the concave trough 2l in varying amounts depending upon the adjustment of the baille I6. If the container I0 should then be tilted forwardly as illustrated in Fig. 3, it will be seen that a predetermined amount of the fluent material in the trough 2| will new out through the discharge chute20, while the remainder of the material M will be dropped downwardly and be retained behind the baille I6.
In order to prevent the material M in the com partment I9 from escaping from the container I0 when said container is tilted, and also to exclude dust from said material at al1 times provision is made of a flat cover 22 which is slidable in a pair of horizontal grooves 23, 24 formed in the inner surfaces of the side walls II, I2 adjacent the top thereof. The inner end of the cover 22 is adapted to enter selectively into either of a pair of horizontal grooves 25, 26 formed in the baille I6, thus providing a means whereby said baille may be locked selectively in two diierent positions for controlling the amount of material M which will enter the trough 2I at each depressing operation.
The adjustment of the cover 22 and the removal thereof to permit the compartment I9 to be refilled, is facilitated by providing a recessed outer end portion or thumbpiece 21 which projects outwardly beyond the end wall I4, said end wall being somewhat shortened at its upper end and being slidably engaged by the cover 22.
Operation In use, a supply of granulated soap or other iluent material to be dispensed will rst be placed in the storage compartment I9, this operation being permitted by the sliding of the cover 22 outwardly. After the material M has been placed in the compartment I9, the cover 22 will be closed so that its inner end will enter one of the grooves 25, 26 in the baiile I6, thus locking said baille in the desired vertically adjusted position.
This arrangement will, of course, permit a quantity of the material M to flow beneath the baffle I6 into the trough 2l by gravity, so that a predetermined quantity of said material may be poured from the container through the discharge chute 20 when said container is tipped, as shown in Fig. 3, at each dispensing operation.
When the container IIJ is restored to upright position, as shown in Fig. 1, more of the material M will flow beneath the baille I6 so that the chute 20 will again contain the predetermined quantity of the material.
It will be understood that vertical adjustment of the baille I6 will regulate the amount of material which ows through the trough 2| into the chute 20 and that said baille may be released for a different adjustment at any time, merely by disengaging the cover 22 from the groove 25 or 26.
While there has been disclosed in this specication one form in which the invention may be embodied, it is to be understood that this form is shown for the purpose of illustration only and that the invention is not to be limited to the specic disclosure but may be modied and embodied in various other forms without departing from its spirit. In short, the invention includes all the modifications and embodiments coming within the scope of the following claims.
Having thus fully described the invention, what is -claimed as new, and for which it is desired to secure Letters Patent, is:
1. In a dispensing container having side, end, and bottom walls, a longitudinally slidable partition baille mounted between said side walls and dividing the interior of said container into a storage compartment and a discharge chute, said baille having a lower edge spaced from an inner portion of said container for regulating the passage of iluent material from said storage compartment to said discharge chute, a cover for said storage compartment, said cover being slidably mounted between said side walls for movement toward and away from said baffle, and means engageable by said cover for locking said baille against vertical sliding movement.
2. The invention as dened in claim 1 in which said locking means comprises a groove in the upper part of said baffle adapted to receive the end portion of said cover.
3. The invention as dened in claim 1, in which said locking means comprises a plurality of grooves in the upper part of said baille, said grooves being selectively engageable by the end of said cover for holding said baille in different elevated positions.
4. In a dispensing container having side, end, and bottom walls, a partition baffle mounted between said side walls and dividing the interior of said container into a storage compartment and a discharge chute, an upwardly concave trough secured in the bottom of said container, said baille having a lower edge located above the bottom of said trough and between the edges thereof, whereby the passage of iluent material from said storage compartment to said discharge chute may be accurately controlled, means mounting said baille for vertical sliding movement, whereby the distance between the lower edge of said baille and the bottom of said trough may be varied, and a cover slidably mounted between said side walls for closing said storage compartment, said baille having means selectively engageable by said cover for locking said baffle in different positions.
