Roeser; Chicago, Ill.,. assignor to The Exhibit Supply 6a.; Chicago, 111., a corporation of Illinois Application August 10, 1950, Serial No. 178,678 '1 Claimst (01. 200-160) This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in a mechanism for operating a momentary switch for an electric circuit, that is, a switch which is momentarily closed.
The invention has for its principal ol ajectto provide a simplified and effective arrangement for momentarily closing a switch.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the novel cornbination and arrangement of parts tote hereinafter described and claimed,
The invention will be best understood by ref-' The objects of this inventionareaccornplished by providing a casing or housing withinwhich is arranged the switch I I' and the mechanism for momentarily closing the switch.
This switch it constitutes in itself no part of the present invention and is of a construction well known in the art and which construction includes an actuating button II".
The housing i0 provides an extension 12- hav ing a central bore l*3-' formed therein. Fixedly mounted in this bore i3 is a guiding sleeve. l4. Mounted for reciprocation in the sleeve M is a plunger 15. The inner endportionof this plunger i5 provides a counter bore 15. Arranged in this counter bore i6 is an expansion spring. I1. This expansion spring ll embraces a pin l8- carried. by the wall l9 of the housing 1.0.- The spring l1 functions to project the plunger E5 to its outermost position with respect-to the sleeve [4' as shown in Fig. 1.. Embracing the plunger I5 is a stopcollar which limits the outwardmovement of the plunger l5 withrespect to the. sleeve l3. The intermediate or medial portion of the plunger [-5 provides reduced p01.- tions 2| and 22 separated by an enlarged or raised portion 23.
The wall 24' of the housing provides spaced lugs 25 in which is journaled a pintle 2,6. This pintle 26 works in a slot 21 formed diagonally in the side walls 28- of an operating lever 29. This op ratin lever .29 has an ext nded portion 2 30' adapted to engage the button l2 of the switch I I. Supported by and arranged between the side walls 28' is a roller 3| which normally engages in the groove 32 provided byreducing the plunger Hi to provide the reduced portion 22.
The wall l9 carries abolt 33 to which one end portion 34 of a spring 35 is connected. The opposite end portion 35 of the spring 35 is connected to the extended portion 30 of the lever. 29.
The housing 10' provides a conduit 31 through whichthe conductor wires to the switch H are passed. 1
The arrangement is such that when the plunger I5 is moved inwardly against the action 1 of the spring H the raised portion 23 thereof will (as shown in Fig. 2) engage the roller 31' and pivot the lever 29 about the pintle 26 to bearthe extended portion 38 of such lever on the button l2. As the roller rides over the raised portion 23 the switch (as shown in Fig. 2) will be closed and as the roller passes from engagement with the raised portion 23' and moves into the groove 32-" provided by the reduced portion 21 the button l2 will instantly returr'iv to its original position thus to effect the momentary closingof the switch l l Upon release of the plunger I5 for return to its initial starting: po'si-- tion under action of the spring l l' the raised portion 23 (as shown in Fig. 3') will engagethe roller 31-. Such engagement between the roller 31 and the raised portion23 will-bear the pintle' 26 against the top edge of the slot 21 and by reason of the diagonal position of the slot 21 this bearing action of the pin upon the edge of. each slot will shift the lever 29 to the position. shown in Fig. 4-, in which position,- as the raised portion 23 passes over the roller 3i it will not efiect a bearingaction of the extension 30 on the button [2 to close the switch ll; By" this arrangement the switch is closed only upon inward movement of the plunger and then only momentarily; 1
My invention will be especially useful in apt-r paratuses or in electric circuits where it is desirable that a switch be momentarily closed.-

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
l. A mechanism for momentarily closing a switch comprising a housing within which said switch is arranged, a plunger mounted for reciprocation in said housing, spring means engaging said housing and said plunger for moving said plunger relative to said housing in one direction, said plunger having a medial portion reduced to provide circumferential grooves and an enlarged portion separating said grooves, a lever having an end portion engaging a button of said switch, a slot and pin connection between the lever and the housing with the slot of said connection extending diagonally with respect to the lever, and a roller carried by the lever for riding engagement with said enlarged portion for movement into said grooves and adapted to engage with said enlarged portion when said plunger is moved in an opposite direction to bear said end portion against said button to close said switch and to move said lever transversely of the long axis of the pinof said connection when said plunger is moved in said one direction.
2. A mechanism for momentarily closing a switch comprising a housing within which said switch is arranged, a plunger mounted for reciprocation in said housing, spring means engaging said housing and said plunger for moving said plunger relative to said housing in one direction, said plunger having a medial portion reduced to provide circumferential grooves and an enlarged portion separating said grooves, a lever having an end portion engaging a button of said switch, a slot and pin connection between the lever and the housing with the slot of said connection extending diagonally with respect to the lever, a roller carried by the lever for riding engagement with said enlarged portion for movement into said grooves and adapted to engage with said enlarged portion when said plunger is moved in an opposite direction to bear said end portion against said button to close said switch and to move said lever transversely of ,the long axis of the pin of said connection when said plunger is moved in said one direction, and spring means for urging movement of said lever in one longitudinal direction.

A mechanism for momentarily closing a switch comprising a housing within which said switch is arranged,-, a plunger mounted for reciprocation in'said housing, spring means engaging said housing and' said plunger for moving said plunger relative to said housing in one direction, said plunger having a medial portion reduced to provide circumferential grooves and an enlarged portion separating said grooves, a lever having an end portion engaging a; .button of said switch, a slot and pin connection between the lever and the housing with the slot of said connection extending diagonally with respect to the lever, and means carried by the lever and having riding engagement with said enlarged portion for movement into said grooves and adapted to engage with said enlarged portion when said plunger is moved in an opposite direction--to bear said end portion against said buttonto close said switch and to move said "lever transversely of the long axis of the pin of said connection when said plunger is moved in said one direction. a, V

A mechanism for momentarily closing a switch comprising a housing within which said switch is arranged, a plunger mounted for reciprocation in said housing, spring means engaging said housing and said plunger for moving said plunger relative to said housing in one direction, said plunger having a medial portion reduced to provide circumferential grooves and an enlarged portion separating said grooves, a lever having an end portion engaging a button of said switch, a slot and pin connection between the lever and the housing with the slot of said connection extending diagonally with respect to the lever, means carried by the lever and having riding engagement with said enlarged portion for movement into said grooves and adapted to engage with said enlarged portion when said plunger is moved in an opposite direction and to bear said end portion against said button to close said switch and to move the lever transversely of the long axis of the pin of said connection when said plunger is moved in said one direction, and spring means for urging movement of said lever in one longitudinal direction.

A mechanism for momentarily closing a switch comprising a housing within which said switch is arranged, a plunger mounted for reciprocation in said housing, spring means engaging said housing and said plunger for moving said plunger relative to said housing in one direction, said plunger having a medial portion reduced to provide circumferential grooves and an enlarged portion separating said grooves, a lever having an end portion engaging a button of said switch, means providing a connection between the lever and the housing to permit pivotal and transverse movement of the lever with respect to the connecting means, a roller carried by the lever and having riding engagement with said enlarged portion for movement into said grooves and adapted to engage with said enlarged portion when said plunger is moved in an opposite direction to bear said end portion against said button to close said switch and to move the lever transversely of the long axis of said connecting means between said lever and said housing when said plunger is moved in said one direction.

A mechanism for momentarily closing a switch comprisin a, housing within which said switch is arranged, a plunger mounted for reciprocation in said housing, spring means engaging said housing and said plunger for moving said plunger relative to said housing in one direction, said plunger having a medial portion reduced to provide circumferential grooves and an enlarged portion separating said grooves, a lever having an end portion engaging a button of said switch, means providing a connection between the lever and the housing to permit pivotal and transverse movement ofthe lever with respect to the con-, necting means, a roller carried by the lever and having riding engagement with said enlarged portion for movement into said grooves and adapted to engage with said enlarged portion when said plunger is moved in an opposite direction and to bear said end portion against said button to close said switch and to move said lever transversely of the long axis of said connecting means between said lever and said housing when said plunger is moved in said one direction, and spring means for urging movement of said lever in one longitudinal direction.
7. A mechanism for momentarily closing a switch comprising a housing within which said switch, means providing a connection between the lever and the housing to permit pivotal and transverse movement of the lever with respect to the connecting means, means carried by the lever and having riding engagement with said enlarged portion for movement into said rooves and adapted to engage with said enlarged portion when said plunger is moved in an opposite direction and to bear said end portion against said button to close said switch and to move said lever transversely of the long axis of said connecting means between said lever and said housing when said plunger is moved in said one direction.
