This-invention relates to a portablejbackrest i:forbenches, seats and the like. v r
l`1llhe.principal objectof this invention is :the `provision ofa portable back rest which may be mounted on` stadium benches andotherbenchesy which are. normally without back rests, as well as on canoe'androwboat seats, and the like. It is fa--lvvell-known and often painful fact that stadium benches at ball games and musical concerts are frequentlymost uncomfortable since they aft ford no support for the back. The present devce is a portable back rest whichmay be carried tolthe ball game or musical concert and applied toa backlessbench torserve as a backrest thereon.` It is readily portable fromplace to place,
andv may veryreadily be mounted on the backless bench and may as readily be removed therefrom. lj`- In thepreferred form of this invention, the ,portable back` rest comprises a frame of inverted lU-shape and a pair of clamps which vare con- ,nectedto the legs of said inverted Uf-shaped frame. f These clamps maybe attached to the back edge ofa backless bench -in order to enable the frame to `serve as aback rest therefor. The `inverted U-shaped framexcomprises a pair of inverted vL.--shapedmembers which are telescopically and detachably connected to each other. When said vinverted L-shaped` members `are detached from each other and placed adjacent each other, they take upqvery little roomendthey 1may be vinserted into a convenient` bag or `cover for-carrying from place to place. `This bag or cover may be described as a slip cover whichmay `beyslippedv over the inverted U-.shaped frame whensaid frame is clamped to a bench andthus span the fgap between the legs of the frame to givesupportto theback of auser. z
To give further` comfort to a user, a` resilient pad is carried within theI slip cover and is so disposedtherein that it covers the front of the frameywhen the slip cover vis slipped over said frame. Hence, the pad serves as a cushion between the frame and the person whose back rests against the frame.
y*It is accordingly another object of this invention to provide "a portable back rest of the character described which includes a frame that may be clamped to a bench and apad for said frame `which serves as a cushion between the frame and :the personwhose back rests against the "frame, said pad being mounted within a slip cover which isiadapted to accommodate theframeforcarrying and storage purposes. The cover servesas a fwebbing tospan the space between the legs of the frame and `'also as the means of supporting the "pad on the` frame when the frame is mounted iii-operative position on the back of a bench. `The frame comprises a pair of detachably' connected members which maybe detached from eachother to facilitate inserting into the cover .r 3--3 of Fig. 2.

The cover has afrontgwall and a back wall and itis closed alongthetop and two sides. vIt is open at the bottomand there provided with aslide fastener closure. 1.
. A preferred form ofthis invention is shown in the accompanying drawing,in whichz'` f Fig. 1 is a perspective viewof theecoverA of the back rest, showing said cover functioning 'in the manner of` a containerforsaid back rest frame members, and showing how thebackrest -is'carried in disassembled condition.
