M. n.WY w8 f n w CH/ w Abf/ C "UNITED 4STAT Patented Sept. 30,: 1952 l fi" provision of a scaffold support'structure for use ain the building' and repairing of houses which is vertically adjustable to any height and al structure Whichmay be quickly and easily applied t Land removed from the building.
' Another object of this invention is to lprovide a safe and durable support of the character described which is of simple and inexpensive design and which may bev easily disassembled in parts easily transportable.
Still further objects and advantages of this in vention will readily appear to those skilled yin the art upon examination of the following description in the light of the accompanying drawings in which:
Fig. 1 is a side elevation o! the structure.
Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the structure.
Fig. 3 is a iront elevation of the step.
Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the step.
Fig. 5 is a top plan view,
Fig. 6 is a top plan view of the step the upl right `shown in horizontal section.
Fig. '1 is a perspective view of the fastening plate.
Referring now to the drawings in which like numerals indicate similar parts throughout the drawings A designates a vertical upright or post which is maintained in an upright `position at a. spaced distance from the building wall by a horizontal member I which is secured to the top of the upright andwhich carries at its extremity a circular plate 2 whichfis adapted to be nailed or screwed to the building.
The endsiof the scaffold walking boards 3 are secured by clamps 4 to the horizontal leg 5 of a triangular bracket B which comprises a second leg 6 perpendicular to leg 5 and an angular brace 1 interconnecting the extremities of legs 5 and 6.
Secured horizontally to the leg 5 of the bracket is a hook member 8 terminating in a U shaped hook 9 adapted .to clamp the upper end of the bracket B to the upright A.
Rigidly supported between the leg 6 and the brace 1 is toothed ratchet track C which engages a pawl I0 aillxed to an upstanding lever I I which has the lower end pivotally connected to the vertical leg 6 of the bracket B for movement about 'a horizontal axis or pin I2 carried by an o iset portion of a metal plate I3 as shown in dotted lines in Figure 2, the other portion of the plate bearing against one side ofthe upright or post A near the base of the vertical leg and in projecting manner so as to prevent the movement of the bracket transverse of the upright.

(o1. 304-41) k Secured tothe'l'et'fer II intermediate its length is a ilexible elementor chain-'I4 which circles behind the upright from the side opposite plate 'I3 and the'end of which issecured to-plate 'I3 as 'at I5, this chain acting'with the pawl lever and ratchet track tor hold the lower end of the legi against the face of the upright under pressure.l Y The face -ofithe uprightladjacent the bracket is provided with vertically spaced openings D which are engaged by a hand operable detent I6 carried by the lower end of leg 6 for the vertical support of said bracket on the-upright.
For mounting the upright to the scaffold vertically adjustable steps 20 are provided which comprise a U-shaped brace 2| which partially encircles the upright and a pin 22 which interconnects the legs of this brace and completes a loose encirclement of A. Inwardly disposed teeth 23 are carried by the brace 2| on one side thereof and a horizontal foot receiving member 24, so constructed that the teeth 23 butt into the upright and support and maintain the step when f downward pressure is exerted on the upper side of the foot member 24.
It can be seen that by operation of the chain and lever and the detent I6, the bracket is adjustable relative to the upright A thus staging vthe scaiold walking boards 3 at any desired height, and the.l steps adjustable to diierent positions relative to the bracket. 1
Having thus described and explained this invention what I claim is:
1. The combination with a vertical post having a plurality ofy spaced apertures along one face thereof, of a scaffold support mounted on said post for yvertical adjustment therealong, said scaffold support comprising a bracket supported on said post for vertical movement and includ- K and i'lxedly secured to said vertical and horizontal to said post and having the other end secured leg of said bracket for movement about a horil to said lever intermediate itsends, and a paWl zontal axis, a chain extending about the other carried by said lever and engaging said ratchet face of said post and having one end secured track for holding said detent in a select one of to said post and having the other end secured to said apertures.' 5 said lever intermediate its ends, and a pawl cartion with respect to said one face of ssaidsposl',
