Application December 16, 1948, Serial No. 65,623

1 Claim. 1

This invention relates to improvements in air conditioning and vaporizing fans, and more particularly to a novel electrical heater and fan having air conditioning means.

An object of the invention is to provide a device of the type which will vaporize various volatile medicinal agents such as menthol.

Another object of the invention is to provide a device of the type which will also vaporize and project various insecticides such as conventional chemical agents now in use.

Another object of the invention is to provide a device of the type which will vaporize aromatic preparations such as incense or perfume in a heated or unheated state.

Another object of the invention is to provide a device of the type which will vaporize and project through a room any one of a variety of chemicals having deodorant properties.

A further object of the invention is to combine with the above functions the operation of air filtering and heating.

Other and further objects of the invention will be apparent as the description proceeds, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which:

Fig. 1 is a rear view partly in section and partly in elevation of an air conditioning and vaporizing fan embodying the invention.

Fig. 2 is a side view partly in section and partly in elevation of the same.

Fig. 3 is a fragmentary view in vertical section of one of the vials.

Fig. 4 is a view on line 4-4 of Fig. 3.

Referring more particularly to the drawing, the numeral l refers to the device generally, having a base H, a trunnion support 12 secured thereto by the threaded means I3, and in turn supporting the drum H which houses a conventional electric motor l5 provided with a fan l6 adapted to discharge air through a heater coil H which latter is electrically energized in the conventional manner. An air filter I8 is held in the enlarged portion I9 of the drum I 4 with a forced fit.

A bracket is secured by threaded means 2| t the interior of the drum [4 and extends horizontally from side to side of said drum adjacent the filter means l8. A plurality of vials 22 are supported on the bracket 20 and held in place by the collar bracket 23 which is held about the necks of the vials by means of coil springs 24. Each vial top 25 is secured by the pivot element 26 to a pull rod 21 which is provided with a coil spring 28 and a handle member 29. Each pull rod 21 is notched as at 30 to provide a detent for the rod when it is extended in upward position. The cap 25 carries suspended therefrom a rectangular rod guide element 31 and a loop member 32 retaining the hooked pin 33 which is pinned into the wicks 34 which communicate with the chemical or solution in the vial 22.

In use, each of the vials 22 may contain a different solution; for instance, one vial will contain menthol, another an insecticide, another an aromatic agent, and the remaining vial a deodorant. When the caps 25 are turned down securely, the rubber washers 36 will help to effectually seal the contents. When it is desired to use the contents of one of the vials in conditioning the air of a room or rooms, the cover 25 is rotated to release the same and the handle 29 is used to raise the pull rod and cap 25 to the height required to engage the notch at 30. This will necessarily raise the wick 34 into the path of air which may be drawn through the drum I 4 by means of the fan IS. The wick 34 will continue to draw up the solution whereupon the same will be vaporized in the current of air. The electrical heater coil I! may be energized or not, as desired, as there are occasions when certain chemicals are better used with or without the accompaniment of heat.

It will be understood that the device is capable of many modifications in structure and design, without departing from the spirit of the invention, within the scope of the appended claim.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed and desired to be secured by Letters Patent of the United States, is:

In a device of the character described, a vial adapted to contain a volatile liquid for vaporization, a cover for the same, a pull rod attached pivotally centrally to the top of said cover having a notch therein for maintaining said pull rod in extended position, a coil expansion spring on said pull rod for normally maintaining said cap in closed position, a leaf loop depending from said cap, a hooked pin engaged in said loop, a rectangular rod guide depending from said cap within said vial, and a wick impaled on said pin with its free end adapted for immersion in the contents of said vial.
