The present invention relates togas burners of the type embodying corrugated metal ribbons ford'efining a longitudinal series of contiguous gas discharge ports of relatively small size. It is desirable that said ribbonsfshall be readily removable from the burner head for cleaning and replacement purposes and it is the object of the present invention to provide an improved assembly of corrugated metal ribbons for that purpose.
For a consideration of what I consider novel and my invention, attention is directed to the following specification and the claims appended thereto t In the drawings:

In Fig. 1 there is illustrated a more or less conventional multiple head burner comprising parallel main burner heads H) which are cross con-'- nected by a relatively narrow pilot flame head I i embodying a grid 12 for producing a runner flame for' igniting the gas issuing from the ports or grid [3 in'each of the main burner heads Ii). The pilot flame head is in gas connection with both of the main burner heads to insure that if gas. is'supplied toeither of 'said heads Ill, the pilot flame head I I will-always receive its quota of gas.
Each of the main burner heads may be supburner plied with gas from individual mixing tubes It.
It is desirable that the grid l3 of the main burner heads shall be removable from its setting to permit inspection and cleaning of the corrugated ribbons of which the grid is comprised and it is the object of the present invention to provide an improved grid that may be readily disassembled for cleaning.
In the present invention the improved grid comprises a bundle of transversely corrugated metal ribbons l whose corrugations defin'elongitudinally extending rows of relatively small:

For descrip tive purpose said bundle is generally indicated by reference number l1. f The metal ribbons which make up the bundle ll are held together by a single rivet or pin 18 at one end of the bundle, the pin having a loose fit so' that when the'bundle is removed from its holder ltjthe ribbons may spread out fan-wise about j the pines an axisior inspection "and cleaningmirp oses. The bundle will usually also compri'e a'plainj spacerribbon 20 between the corrugated'ribbons depending on the form of the corrugations. v t t The holder it for the'ribbon bundle il is adapted to be removably positioned between the side walls 2i of the elongate gas outlet slot in the top side of the main burner head in by insertion thereinto' from above. The degree to which the holder may be pushed down into the slot is limited by overhanging flanges 22 along the upper edge of the legs or long side walls 23 of the holder. The holder may also be 'impositively locked in position in said slot by one or more pimples 2:4 on the outside face of one or both of the legs '23 of the holder for entry into a depression in the adjacent faceof the sidewall I 2150f said 'slot, the depression extending a substantial distance lengthwise of said wall to provide a stiffeningrib 25 along the outer face of said wall, itbeing understood that the main body of the burner head is' made of sheet metal. The end wall which forms the closed end of the U -shape frame or holder I6 is indicated at 2'1 and has'upp'er and lower tabs 28 and 29 which extendhorizontally between the legs 23 of said frame to form a socket whereinto the looseend 30 of the ribbon bundle I1. is slidably supported.
The other orpin end 3| of said bundle is detachably supported at the open end of said frame by means consisting of transversely'alined apertures 32 in the legs '23 of said frame for receivin the opposite terminalendsor heads .33 of said pin I8, it being noted that said terminal ends orheads do not extend beyond the outer face of. the legs 23 of the holder and therefore do not in any way interfere with the free'insertion of said holder into or with its free removal from the burner head slot nor with the ready removal of the ribbon bundle from said holder after the latter has been removed from said slot and spread apart. The bundle I! is supported in said holder I 6 with its loose end 30 sufficiently remote from the end wall 2! of the U-shape frame to permit free thermal expansion of the ribbons of said bundle in a direction towards said end Wall. The pin end 3| of the ribbon bundle is disposed nextradjacent to the pilot flame head H to insure, ready ignition by the flame from the latter of the gas issuing from said bundle I7, it being noted that pin end of the bundle terminates substantially flush with the adjacent terminal end of the holder 16.
From the foregoing description, it will be apparent that the present invention provides a ribbon type of burner grid that is well adapted for its intended purpose. It will also be understood that the improved grid is not limited in its application to multiple burner heads and therefore that no limitations as to its application are intended except as stated in the appended claims.
What I claim is: v
1. In a gas burner, in combination, a hollow head to receive the gas to be burned andhaving walls forming an elongate slot communicating with the interior of said head to form an elongate outlet for the gas, a bundle of port-forming metal ribbons held together at one end by a pin and being otherwise unsecured to each other, a U-shape frame removably positioned in said slot for holding said bundle in said outlet to forma grid for dividing the latter into a, plurality of relatively small-size gas-discharge ports, and means atthe closed end of said frame for slidably supporting the loose end of the bundle, said pin having relatively short terminal extensions and the legs of said frame adjacent their free ends having transversely alined apertures to receive the terminal extensions of said pin for holding the pin in fixed position relative to said frame, whereby upon removal of said frame from said slot said bundle may be readily removed from said frame by spreading said legs apart at their free ends.
2. An article of manufacture for a gas burner having a hollow head to receive the gas to be burned and having walls forming an elongate slot communicating with the interior of the head to, form an elongate outlet for the gas, said article comprising, in combination, a bundle of portforming metal ribbons held together atone end by a pin and being otherwise unsecured to each other, a U-shape frame adapted to be removably positioned'in said slot for holding said bundle in said outlet to form a grid for dividing the latter into a multiplicity of relatively small-size gasdischarge ports, means at the closed end of the frame for slidably supporting the loose end of said bundle, said pin having relatively short terminal extensions and the legs of said frame havingat a point adjacent their free ends alined apertures to receive the terminal extensions of [said pin whereby to hold said pin in fixed position relative to saidframe when the free ends of said legs are in contact with the adjacent sides of said bundle but not otherwise whereby on thefree ends of said legs being spread apart the pin is automatically disengaged from said apertures.
3. An article of manufacture for a gas burner,
having a hollow head to receive the gas to be burned. and having an elongate slot communicating with the interior of the head to form an outletforthe gas, said article comprising, in combination, a bundle of metal ribbons adapted to provide a multiplicity ofrelatively small-size gas discharge ports between their adjacent sides, a
relatively small-size gas-discharge ports, means at the closed end of said frame for slidably supporting one end of said bundle, a pin extending through the-other end of :said bundlgindepend- 'ently of said frame for holding that end of the bundle together, and means comprising the legs of said frame for interlocking with the terminal ends of said pin to hold said pin in fixed position relative to said frame when the free ends of said legs are in contact with the adjacent sides of said bundle but not otherwise, whereby on the free ends of said-legs being spread apart said pin is disengaged from said legs thereby permitting ready removal of said bundle from said frame.
4. An article of manufacture for a gas burner having an elongate hollow head to receive the gas to be burned and having an elongate slot communicating with theinterior of said head to form an elongate outlet for the gas, said article comprising. an elongate, bundle of port-forming members, an elongate frame comprising side walls adapted to be positioned in said slot with said bundle extending longitudinally between said side walls whereby said outlet is divided by said bundle into a series of relatively small-size ports, the said side walls having a pair of transversely alined apertures near one end of said frame, and a pin extending through said bundle with the ends of the pin projecting into said apertures, the pin being of less length than the width of said slot and being disengageable from said apertures by a spreading movement of said side walls, and means carried by said frame for slidably supporting that end of said bundle most remote from said pin.

In a gas burner, in combination, an elongate hollow head to receive the gas to be burned and having walls forming an elongate slot communicating with the interior ofthe head to form an elongate outlet for the gas, an elongate bundle of port-forming ribbons, an elongate U-shape frame adapted to be positioned in said slot with said bundle extending longitudinally between the legs of said framewhereby said outlet is divided by said bundle into a longitudinalseries of relatively small-size ports, the legs of said frame remote from the closed end of the frame having'a pair of transversely alined apertures, a pin extending through said bundle with its ends projecting into said alined apertures, the pin being disengagablefrom said apertures by a spreading movement of the free ends of said legs upon removal of said frame from said slot to facilitate ready removal of said bundle from said frame, and means at the closed end of said frame for supporting the adjacent end of the bundle.

In a gas burner, in combination, an elongate hollow head to receive the gas to be burned and having walls forming an elongate slot communie eating with the interior of the head to form an elongate outlet for the gas, an elongate'bundle of port-forming members, an elongate frame comprising laterally spaced side walls adapted to be positioned in said slot with said bundle extending longitudinally between said side walls whereby said outlet is divided by said bundle into a series of relatively small-size ports, the said walls having a pair of transversely alined apertures intermediate the ends of said frame, and apin extending through said bundle with its ends projecting into said-apertures, said pin being of less length than the width of said slot and being disengagable from said apertures by a spreading movement of said side walls upon removal of said frame from said slot to facilitate ready removal of said bundle from said frame.
7. A gas burner having an elongate hollow head and comprising wall means forming therebetween an elongate slot communicating with the interior of said head, said wall means having a pair of transversely aligned apertures, a bundle of portforming members positioned in said slot, and a pin extending through said bundle and having a head at each end to retain said members and projecting into said apertures for removably supporting said bundle in said slot.
