l CE-SCRAPER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 259,997, dated June 27, 1882.

Application filed April 10, 1882.

- To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, THOMAS W.Bo'rrs, of Peoria, in the county of Peoria, in the State of Illinois, have invented an Improved Ice-Scraper; and I do hereby declare that the following in which- Figure 1 represents a plan; Fig. 2, a sectional side view at a; 00, Fig. 1; Fig. 3, an end view from rear.

This ice-scraper consists essentially of two 1 5 solid sled-runners having extendingbetween them an inclinedmovable board or scraper.

B B are the runners, having the rear half of each somewhat higher than the rest and being joined together by beams F and suitable 2o braces.

The forward part of the sled is covered by a platform, P, and the whole is drawn by a tongue, T.

At the inside of the rear end of each sled- 2 runner B are secured, at angles of about fortyfive degrees with the ground-line, guide-bars B B. In these guide-bars the board A, which serves as the scraper, is made to slide freely. This scraper A is made to move down toward or up and away from the ice by means of the lever L, which is pivoted to the metal strips D, fastened to said scraper.

The shaft S, having its bearings at its ends upon the runnersR B, has fastened at its cen- 3 5 ter two angle-irons, (J G, to which is pivoted the lever L. By this arrangement the lever can move forward or backward sufficiently to (No model.)

adapt itself tothe varying positions of the scraper A.

To prevent the snowfrom being crowded up over the scraper A, the board E is fastened just above the top edge of said scraper, when at its lowest position, by having its ends secured to the runners.

In operating this ice-scraper I drive along over the desiredplace, holding up the lever L, if I wish to scrape the ice very cleanly, until a large quantity has been accumulated in front of the scraper A and between the runners, when by pulling down on the lever L the scraper A is elevated sufficiently to allow all the collected snow to remain in a heap, while the ice'scraperis driven on. Y

What I claim as my invention, and for which I desire Letters Patent, is as follows, to wit:

1. The two solid runners R R, joined by suitable cross-beams, and having guide-bars B B, in'combination with the scraper A, movable in said guides B B by means of the lever L, for the purpose set forth.

2. The solid runners B R, joined by crossbeams F, and having platform 1?, in combination with the scraper A, movable in guides B B, attached to said runners B B, and the lever L, pivoted to angle-irons O on the shaft S, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
