Application August 30, 1950, Serial No. 182,187
6 Claims. 1
My invention relates to sprinkler structures which are made of foldable material so that they may be folded compactly, and be carried about in a ladys purse, or in the pocket of a garment when not in use.
An important object of my invention is to provide a device of the aforementioned character which may be quickly and readily unfolded and filled with liquid contents to be dispensed through the spout section thereof.
Another object of my invention is to provide a sprinkler device of the aforementioned character having a body formed with longitudinally pleated sides so that the device may be compactly folded.
A further object of my invention is to provide auxiliary handle means to facilitate the use of the structure as a sprinkler.
A still further object of my invention is to provide a locking belt means or strap means for maintaining the device in a compactly folded position preventing accidental opening or unfolding thereof.
A still further object of my invention is to provide in a structure of the aforementioned character, a spout section which will be conveniently folded with the remainder of the unit so that the same will lend itself to compact folding formation.
Other objects, ancillary advantages, and features inherent in my invention will become apparent from an examination of the accompanying drawings, bearing further elucidation in the ensuing description, wherein like symbols are utilized to designate like parts, and in which:
Fig. 1 represents a front view of my invention.
Fig. 2 represents a side view of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional view taken, substantially, on the lines 33 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a longitudinal cross-sectional view taken, substantially, on the lines 44 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 5 is a perspective view showing preliminary steps taken in compactly folding my invention.
Fig. 6 indicates a perspective view of the compactly folded invention, occupying a minimum of space so that same may be carried in the pocket of a garment or in a ladys purse.
Referring to the various views, my invention consists of a body of substantially cylindrical formation 1, divided by two longitudinal pleated sections at opposite sides designated I3, 50 that the same may be folded similarly to folding a paper bag. To the body 1 is attached a bottom portion 8, and an angularly positioned and arcuately-shaped section I0 to form a mouth or entry for the sprinkler section designated II. It will be noted that the sprinkler section is made up so as to have an angular portion 20 at its top, and a sprinkler face 2| with perforations [2 is also positioned in angular relationship to the longitudinal axis of the unit, providing a crotch portion 22 at the bottom so that the sprinkler portion Il may be conveniently folded in place as indicated in Fig. 5.
The device is provided with a manipulating handle [4, which is held in one hand, while an auxiliary handle 24 is held or grasped for lifting the sprinkler in order .to permit the liquid contents within the body tobe dispensed through the openings 12.
The body is open at the top at 9, except for the portion that is partially closed by the arcuate section I 0 which forms a mouth leading into the confines 2 3 of the sprinkler portion ll, so that liquid therein may be dispensed when held by both hands, one hand grasping the handle [4, the other hand grasping the auxiliary handle 24. and lifting the bottom of the sprinkler so as to permit the liquid contents to be dispensed through the pouring holes or sprinkler holes l2.
When not in use, the unit may be folded com- I pactly, by folding inwardly the pleats I3 as indicated in Fig. 5 and then folding the sprinkler portion I I on the crotch 22 at the same time folding transversely along the fold demarcations designated l6 and I1. After the folding is completed and the body is folded into three sectionfi as indicated in Fig. 5, the unit is held in compactly folded position by means of the folding or retaining strap I5 having a snap-fastener l8, and on its free end 19 a mating snap-fastener to engage the snap-fastener l8, so that the entire unit may be carried compactly in the pocket of a garment or a ladys purse when not in use.
Although I have herein described rather succinctly the nature and use of my invention so that persons skilled in the art will have no difliculty apprising themselves of the teachings thereof and, inasmuch as the disclosure is susceptible of various alterations, modifications, and improvements, I hereby reserve the right to all modifications, alterations, and improvements falling within the scope and spirit of my invention, as well as any modifications that are embraced in the accompanying drawings, and any that may come within the purview of the foregoing description; my invention to be limited only by the appended claims.
Having thus disclosed and revealed my invenbody, a carrying handle straddling the open top of the said body, and an auxiliary handle secured to the outer surface of the said body and at right angles to the said first-mentioned handle.
2. A compactly foldable sprinkler device, com prising a body made of flexible material and having longitudinal pleat portions, an arcuatelyshapedosection partially closing the top of the saidbody'deflning a filler opening, a sprinkler section made of. flexible material and-formed contiguously to the said arcuately-shaped section'andpositioned to. point obliquely upwardly forming a crotch portion 'at the point of juncture of the said sprinkler section with the said body, a carrying handle straddling the open top of the said body, an auxiliary handle secured, to the outer surface of the said body and at rightangles,
to the said first-mentioned handle, and sprinkler perforations on the face of the said sprinkler section. V
3. Acompactly foldable sprinkler device, comprising a body made of flexible material and having longitudinal pleat portions, an arcuatelyshaped section partially closing the top of the said body defining a filler opening, a sprinkler sectionpiade of flexible materialand formed contiguously to the said arcuately-shaped section and positioned to point obliquely upwardly formangles to the said first-mentioned handle, the
said sprinkler device being folded longitudinally by collapsing the said pleat portions, folding the said sprinkler section on the said crotchportion and folding the said sprinkler device twice on transverse lines to form a compactly folded arrangement.
