DRIP PAN FOR FLUSH TANKS Filed June 17, 1948 AT TOR NEYS Patented June 3, 1,952
1 Claim.
.11 l ,.'My .invention .refers A.to .drippans :for v.ilush vtanks and it has for its primary. object-to. provide a pan having adjustable seats for the supply and ush pipesv 'of a tank, whereby compensation is hadzfortvariations that areiafzound in the1;position tofasaid pipes ,with .reference'rtoythe tankbottom. 'L'Ihe three pointA suspension` set" bolt attaching vzineansfor.thepan to the ushxpipe isfsimilar to thatushowninmyo -pendingpatent application #8,380, dated .February l1.4, .1948.
The specic object of my present invention is to provide compensating plates for the pipe openingsxin 'a pan, Wherebythe supply pipe may be boxed, 'irrespective of its lateral or transverse position, with reference to the tank bottom, and an anchor boxing plate assemblage for the ush pipe, irrespective of its transverse position rela tive to said tank bottom.
A further object of my invention is to provide a. transversely adjustable boxing plate for the ush pipe associated with the pan, having three point suspension radially disposed bolts for anchoring said pan.
With the above and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts, substantially as hereinafter described, and more particularly defined by the appended claims, it being understood that such changes in the precise embodiment of the herein disclosed invention may be made as come within the scope of the claim.
In the accompanying drawings is illustrated one complete example of the physical embodiment of the present invention constructed according to the best mode so far devised for the practical application of the principles thereof.
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 represents a sectional elevation of a drip-pan attaching means to a tank flush pipe, embodying the features of my invention, the section being indicated by line I--I of Figs. 2 and 3 of the drawings.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view through the same, the section being indicated by line 2-2 of Fig. 3.
Fig. 3 is a plan view of the same, partly in section as indicated by line 3 3 of Fig. 2; and
Fig. 4 is a detail cross sectional view through the boxing assemblage of the flush pipe, the section being indicated by line 4--4 of Fig. 3.
Referring by characters to the drawings, A indicates a ush tank, having depending from its bottom a flush pipe B and a supply pipe C.
Anchored under the bottom of the tank is an Aupstanding ribbedzrdripe-pan 'I ,f'having aifribbed or fnanged slotted `opening 2, :extending fifromone edgethereofffand associatedwiththeasupplyzpipe C, the said opening being of a materiallyigreater cross lvsectionalareaj thantheipipa I :'Aseconjd upstandingru fshapednanged opening 3 also extends fromithemear edge-:ofthezpanrand its edge flange terminates with an inwarldly @extended wing .14, having a curve'd f throatrfabout :11.0 fthe# ushlpipe and. :straight .leg;.extensions5the1.e
from. The vswing :extensions fareaformed zwithfslots andftted :over ,asaid wing` extensions-.israfboxing plate ,1 the 'samer-having downturned angsrf 215 which engage :.theziiangesfof the` associatedfpan opening and said boxing plate is formed with an open throat extending inwardly from its rear edge terminating in an enlarged circular opening. An upturned ange 'I extends about the circular edge of the opening.
The upturned flange I carries a centrally positioned upstanding ear 1', which adjustably receives a threaded set bolt 8. Depending from the walls of the circular opening adjacent to the throat and on opposite sides of the ear 'I' are ears 9 and these ears adjustably receive threaded set bolts I0. The bolts I0 in conjunction with the set bolt 8 form a three-point suspension anchor for the pan, the bolts being threaded into tight engagement with the flush pipe B.
The boxing plate 6 carries a pair of depending bolts I I, which bolts pass through the Wing slots 5 and are secured by thumb nuts, whereby the pan can be adjusted backwardly and forwardly.
As best indicated in Figs. 2 to 4 inclusive, the throat portion of the boxing plate is fitted with an adjustable extension plate I2, having downturned edge flanges in slidable engagement with the throat portions of the boxing plate.
The adjustable extension plate I2 is also provided with an upstanding circular hanged recess I2', which recess, when the parts are in position, completes the circular throat recess of the boxing plate. This extension plate I2 serves to close up the rear portion of the opening 3 and if said extension plate is not of sufcient length, a second extension plate I3 may be lapped over the same and in slidable union therewith.
Thus the depth of the ush tank drip-pan opening is adjustable, whereby said opening is closed from end to end. Due to the transverse adjustment of the boxing plate, the position of the ilush pipe is accommodated for the three point anchor means.
Referring to the slotted opening 2 of the drippan, which is associated with the supply pipe C, I provide a boxing plate I4, having downturned flanges which are spaced from the anges of the opening 2, and also said boxing plate is provided with a throat I5, having an upturned flange, which is centered about the supply pipe. By employing a boxing plate of this type, it will be noted that it may be adjusted longitudinally and also laterally, whereby it will properly jacket the supply pipe lC, irrespective of its position, with reference to the ush pipe.
In some instances the throat of the boxing plate I 4 may be provided with a laterally disposed strip, not shown, for closing the throat opening.
It will be noted. as illustrated in Fig. 1 of the drawings, that the pan is of standard type and is slightly forwardly inclined and provided with a drain nipple D.
It is to be noted that the pair of set bolts engaging the flush pipe are shown in a different plane from the companion single set bolt, whereby due to the obliquely disposed grip upon the flush pipe there is little tendency for slippage of the drip-pan.
While I have specifically dened structural details, it is understood that I may vary the same within the scope of the claim.
I claim:
A drip-pan for flush tanks having an open pipe receiving slot extending inwardly from one edge thereof, the edges of said slot being provided with an upstanding flange having an inwardly extending wing, said wing being provided with longitudinally extending slots, a boxing plate tted over the wing and having opposite down-turned flanges engaging the flange of the slot in the pan and a fiat surface having an open throat extending inwardly from the rear edge thereof and terminating in an enlarged circular opening, an upstanding flange surrounding the circular edge of the opening for engaging about a pipe, an upstanding centrally disposed ear carried by the iiange, a set bolt carried by said ear, a pair of depending ears disposed on each side of the central ear adjacent to the front of the circular opening at the junction with the throat and carried by the sides of the opening, set bolts carried by said pair of ears for engaging a pipe below the rst mentioned set bolt, and thumb nuts and bolts carried by said boxing plate and received in the slots of the wing, whereby the pan can be adjusted back and forth on the boxing plate.
