This invention has reference to an improvement in projectiles for fire-arms; and its nature consists in having an elongated conical shell'with .a flat base, on the rear end of which are six or more curved grooves running in- -ward from. the point a, about one-fourth the length o f the shot; also, in having reversed,
curved grooves 'running from point a toward the point of the shell, and in cutting away the body of the shell toward the front grooves, so
as to allow the air to act upon them.
curved grooves A on the rear running inward from point a, and the reversed-curved.grooves 'B ,on the frontl of theshell, also starting' from @point a. The shell is redin the usual manner-,andby the. action of the. gases from the u charge on the grooves A, a rotation is given' to the shell, causing it to move forward point foremost, andvbe exploded by the striking of the point, any suitable device being employed for effecting the discharge, and the air'aoting uponthe grooves B, on the front part of the shell, serves tosteady it during its passage.
I claimversed-ourvedgrooves A and B on the rear and front, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
