The present invention relates to a washstand combined with a water closet for the washing of the latter by draining the washstand, consisting of a washstand which is arranged above the water closet and may be swung up to vertical position about a tilting shaft, and which has an inwardly directed edge extending around the washstand, and it is substantially characterized therein that the washstand is adapted with a bottom sloping rearwards towards the tilting shaft and with increasing height of the side walls, the covering edge being wider at the rear part of the washstand, where the basin formed by the bottom and the side walls has its largest depth, than at the side Walls and the front of the stand in such a way that the volume of the container, which when the washstand assumes the vertical position is formed by the rear part thereof with the wider, covering edge located here forming the rear side of the container, is equal to or greater than the basin volume at the horizontal position of same limited by one or more overflow pipes provided in the stand.

In earlier known combinations of water closet and washstand the water at the draining of the washstand is tilted over an edge spout into a funnel and further on through a drain channel to the water closet, which is hereby washed in the ordinary manner. In these devices leakage of wash water may occur over the open edge spout of the washstand and over the open outlet funnel when the washstand is drained rapidly. Leakage may even occur when the washstand is in the swung-up position if the water supply cock is not tight.

The present invention eliminates these drawbacks. The top side of the wash stand is provided with an edge (roof) partly covering the washstand, which edge according to the invention is considerably wider at the rear part of the washstand, where the outlet pipes provided with filters are arranged, than at the front and the side walls. The washstand has a bottom which slopes towards the rear, and consequently the depth of the basin increases in the said direction. In the horizontal position of the washstand the outlet pipes serve as overflow and in the vertical position as outlet for the washing water. When at rapid draining the washstand is moved to the Vertical position, the washing water is collected in its rear, covered, roomy part, which in this position serves as a collecting funnel with outlet in its bottom. In the same roomy, funnelshaped part leakage from the water supply cock is also collected if the latter is leaking. Wash- 2 stand and outlet pipes are provided with brackets, connected with a frame which is arranged around the front side of the washstand and is adapted with handles for the lifting thereof.

An embodiment of the invention is illustrated on the annexed drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a vertical section, Fig. 2 a front view of the device, Fig. 3 a washstand in swung-down, horizbntal position and Fig. 4 a swung-up bracket with frame.

In the drawing, the numeral I designates the water closet with seat, internal roundwash ring and drain trap. The numeral 2 designates the washstand, which in Figs. 1-3 is shown swung down in the horizontal position, in Fig. 1 also shown swung up in the vertical position by dotted lines. 3 is a drain trap pipe leading to the water closet, 5 designates outlet pipes equipped with filters, movably arranged in sealing boxes and ending up into the drain trap pipes 4. 6 designates the ventilation pipes of the water closet and 'i the swingable frame of the washstand provided with brackets, as well as

H designates two wall supports in which the outlet pipes 5 are turnable in sealing boxes. I2 designates a limitation of the edge (roof) on the upper side of the washstand. l3 designates a recess in the brim at the rear part of the Washstand 2. I4 is the water supply cock and I5 friction rings between the brackets 8 and the wall supports ll, intended to hold the washstand in vertical position.

The device is used in the following manner: When the water closet is to be used, the washstand 2 is swung up to thevertical position in which it is retained by the friction rings [5. When the water closet is to be washed after use, the washstand is swung down to the horizontal position and is filled with water from the water supply cook or cocks, whereupon it is swung up into the vertical position for draining of the weter.

The device saves water, room, installation costs and repair.

The details of the device may be varied without going beyond the scope of the invention.

Having now described .my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. Awash stand and water closet unit with the wash stand located at a distance above the closed pan, comprising, in combination, two wall supports carrying each a hollow pivot for brackets secured to the frame of the wash stand on either side thereof, friction rings between said wall supports and said brackets, filters incorporated in said hollow pivots, and two drain trap pipes connected each to one of said hollow pivots and to a common outlet pipe opening into the closet pan.

2. A wash stand and water closet unit as claimed in claim 1, wherein the wash stand comprises a single bowl of a substantially semi-circular plane configuration and increasing in volume successively toward the rear border thereof while presenting a covering lip protruding from the rear toward the front, the hollow pivots being located immediately adjacent to the border of the bowl and adapted at the same time as overflows at the filling of the bowl, so that the quantity of water in the bowl is in the horizontal position of the latter restricted to an extent permitting the same 4 in the vertical position of the bowl to be contained within the compass of the bowl limited by said protruding lip.
