Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OF ICE.
ERICK OSTBERG, OF GALVAV, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO JOHN A. REGNELL, OF SAME PLACE.
HALTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 259,200, dated June 6, 1882.
' Application filed April 1, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Beitknownthat I, ERICK OSTBERG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Galva, in the county of Henry and State of Illinois, have in vented certain new and useful Improvements in Halters; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to rope halters; and it consists in the peculiar construction and connection of the parts, whereby I producea halter of a superior class from two pieces of rope, aside from the strap, as hereinafter fully described, and set forth in the claim hereto annexed.
In the accompanying. drawings, which illustrate a halter embodying my invention,,and form a part of this specification, Figure l is a perspective Fig. 2, an enlarged detail, hereinafter referred to.
Referring to the drawings by letters, the.
piece, a, thence both ends carried over to form a crown-piece, a, thence downward and intertwined to form the other cheek-piece, a thence one end, A, is carried backward and turned again forward to form the loop 0, thence to the cheek-strap a/., from which both ends extend around forward to form the nose-piece D, and connect with the lower end of the cheek-piece a", from which both extend rearward and are spliced to form a loop, 0 similar to the loop 0.
The manner of intertwining the parts of the rope A where they unite the nose-strap and cheek-pieces and at the points 06 e is shown in the drawings.
G is a single piece of rope, doubled at g to form a loop, h,where it is intertwined with the cheek-piece a", thence both of its ends carried around to form a brow-piece, I, and to intertwinewith the cheek-piece 00", thence downward and rearward and-returned to form a loop, J, thence upward and forward and its ends spliced together to form a loop, h. Above the loop J the four'parts of the rope G are intertwined, as shown more plainly at Fig. 2,
so that they cannot slip with reference to each other to close said loop J. The loops h h have attached straps K K, which buckle together to complete the throat-latch L. The looped ends (3' G are passed through the loop J, and a hitching-rope, M, is looped into the loops 0 O, as shown.
The foregoing construction forms a simple and cheaphalter, with nose piece, crown-piece,
brow-piece, cheek-straps, and throat-latch and throat-latch, and adapted to receive the hitching-strap, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ERICK OSTBERG.
