Description

(Model.)
T.MEVYER; TRACE SUPFGRTER.
Patented June, '18.82.
, -If/wenfaz'." 4T La Wb MM. Y
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
THOMAS MEYER, OF LOGANSPORT, INDIANA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO HENRY TUCKER, OF SAME PLACE.
TRAC E-SUPPO RTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part f Letters Patent No. 259,034, dated June 6, 1882.
Application filed April 18,1882. (Model.) l
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, THOMAS MEYER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Logansport, in the county of Cass and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Trace-Supporters, of which the following is a specification.
My' invention relates to improvements in trace-supporters for use with single or double Io harness of light or heavy draft, in which a metallic frame is attached to the hip-strap in harness without breeching, and in harness with breechin g isproperlyconnected with thebreeching by a short-leather stay, and which has at '15 its lower end an axis for holding a loop for supporting trace; and the object of my inven` tion is, first, to prevent sagging of the trace, and, secondly, in furnishing a trace-carrier to 'save leather in the manufacture ot' harness zo provided with tracesupporters. lattain these objects by the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a top view of my trace-supporter properly adj usted upon the hip-strap with a 2 5 trace inserted in the loop, ready for use. Fig.
2 is a vertical sectional view of my trace-supporter, showing short rigid pin in the center of the second cross-bar of the buckle-frame, and showing` at the lower end of said frame a 3o projecting knob having at its extreme end a vertical pivot to form an axis for semi-rotary movement of the loop, also showing the loop provided with a rigid pin in the center of the interior surface of its ,outer side for holding 55 the trace in place, and having in its inner surface a swinging tongue, attached by means 'of a pivot, and provided with a spiral spring and bolt, moved by a button,d and showing a slot in which the .button is operated to lock 4o the tongue in place. Fig. 3 is a lateral sectionalviewof the tongue, showingin its upper end a shoulder and pivot and in its central part a spiral spring, with bolt and button, Working in the slot.
Similar letters refer to similar parts through the several views.
A represents the buckle-frame of my device, curved in reverse directions, as shown. a' represents a short rigid pin for securing 5o the frame to the saddle-girth.
B is the loop for supporting the trace; "b, a rigid pin for holding the trace within the loop B.
C is a projecting knob of the frame A, embracing the axis c for attaching it to the loop B'. v
D represents a tongue, forming the inner wall ofthe loop B, to which it is attached by means of the pivot d.
E is a bolt, moved by the spiral spring c by 6o means of the button f, working in the slotf'.
The frame A is made to receive the hipstrap or leather stay in proper manner, and is made fast to the same by the rigid pin a'.
The loop B is attached to frame A upon the 6; axis c at the end ot' the projecting knob O ot the frame A, and is adapted to move as a swivel upon axis o.
The tongue D may be raised upon its pivot and the trace properly inserted into the clasp 7o B, and made fast by means ofthe rigid pin a. The tongue D is then returned to its position and secured by the bolt E and catch b2. The trace is now properly adjusted for service.
Having thus described my invention, what 'l claim, and desire to secure byLettersPatent,
l. The combination, in a trace-supporter adapted to be attached to the hip-strap of a harness without breeching, and in harness 8o with breeching to a short leather stay on the same, of theframe A, having vertical parallel side bars, with four transversely-parallel bars, its lower part provided with Ya knob, C, having at its extreme end the axis c', with the 85 loop B, having rigid pinb, tongue D, the pivot d', spiral spring e', the bolt E, slotf, and button j", all substantially as described, and for the purposes specified.
2. In a trace-supporter, the loop B, having 9o rigid pin b,and tongue D, with bolt E, adapted to be moved against spiral spring e -cby means of the buttouf, working in the slotf.
'rHoMAs MEYER.
