ELECTRIC IRON HOLDER Filed June 4. 1949 iVm/kiff@ .myc/M Patented Feb. 12, 1952 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE ELECTRIC IRON HOLDER Odd Fjermestad, Brooklyn, N. Y.
Application June 4, 1949, Serial No. 97,166
1 Claim. (Cl. 38-107) This invention relates to an electric iron holder.
It is an object of the present invention to provide an electric iron holder which can be connected by a cord to an electric source and to which the electric cord for the electric iron can be attached and also other electric elements can be connected thereto, the holder forming as well as a support for the electric iron a terminal box and means for releasably retaining the holder upon the ironing board.
Other objects of the present invention are to provide an electric iron holder with a terminal box, which is of simple construction, inexpensive to manufacture, has a minimum number of parts, compact, rigid, and eiiicient in operation.
For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. l is a perspective view of an ironing board, the holder embodying the features of the present invention and the electric iron attached thereto.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the electric iron holder.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken generally upon line 3-3 Of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view taken on line 4-4 of Fig. 2.,
Fig. 5 is a transverse sectional view taken generally online 5 5 of Fig. 3. l
Fig. 6 is a transverse sectional view taken generally on line 6 6 of Fig. 3.
Fig. 7 is a transverse sectional view taken on line 'I-'I of Fig. 2..
Referring now to the figures, I represents an ironing board on which a plate II is fixed by means of screws passing through holes I2 thereon. This plate has three struck up portions I3 adapted to receive a base portion I4 of the iron holder. The iron holder is thus removably connected to the base plate I I on the ironing board.
The portion I4 is formed of insulating material, Fig. 4. and has connected to it by means of vertically extending bolts I separable insulating blocks I6 and I1 having openings I8 therein for receiving terminals or an electric socket I9 into which is extended an electric cable 2|. 'I'he separable insulating blocks I6 and Il are also made secure by transversely extending bolts 22.
An iron holder receiving or supporting plate of metal is indicated at 23 and is made secure by means of the bolts I5 to the base portion I4. This plate 23 has a plurality of ribs 24 thereon. The plate also has a dropped supporting portion 25 which rests upon an insulating sheet 26 disposed across the top of the separable insulating blocks I6 and I1.
A cable 28 can be connected into one of the outward portions of the socket I9 for attachment with an electric iron 2!!l having the usual handle portion 3l. An electric lamp or other device, as indicated at 32, may be connected through a cable to another outlet portion of the socket I9.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be Within the spirit and scope of the present invention as dened by the appended claim.
Having thus set forth and disclosed the nature of my invention, what is claimed is:
An electric iron holder comprising a base adapted to be attached to an ironing board, and having at least three struck-up portions, a bottom insulating portion removably received by the said struck-up portions of the base, separable insulating blocks secured to the insulating bottom portion, an iron receiving portion adapted to support an electric iron and secured to the said insulating blocks, said separable in sulating blocks having openings therein, an electric socket fitted within said openings of the insulating blocks and having a plurality of outlets, one of said outlets receiving the electric plug of an ironing cord, a cable extending through the separable insulating blocks for supplying current to the electric socket therewithin.
