This invention relates to an improved sanitary water hydrant construction for railroad'yards.
An object of the invention is to provide'an improved sanitary water hydrant construction for railroad yards or other locations whichwill insure sanitation and positive cleanliness of the usual short section of hose which is "provided for connection between the water hydrant and the many containersor tanks on railroad cars which have to be frequently filled from a yard hydrant.
' Another object of the invention is to provide an improved sanitary water hydrant 'construction for use in railroad yards or other desired cations, wherein the water outlet fitting and the fittings on the ends of the usual short section of hose used for connecting th'ehydrant water outlet to the various water storage tanks on a, railroad car will be protected by'water tight coverings at all timesthe hydrant and section of hose are not actually in use, thus preventing the entry of germs or filth throughthe fittings and into the water storage tanks.
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved sanitary water hydrant construction for use in railroad yards 'and other desired locations, said hydrant being provided with a Water outlet fitting which will be protected by a hinged cover when not in use, and a pair of oppositely disposed dummy fittings or connections supported by the hydrant for connection with the opposite ends of the usual short section of hose used for connecting the hydrant outlet with a water tank to be filled, when said hose is not being used, rather than having the section of hose lying on the ground to accumulate dirt and germs which might readily enter the water supply tanks while being filled.
A still further object of theinvention is to provide an improved sanitary water hydrant construction which will be highly efiicient in operation, and relatively inexpensive to manufacture and produce.
Other objects will appear as the description proceeds.

'(Cl. 13713 Figure 4 is an elevational view of the-valve assembly v e I Like characters of reference are used throughout the following specification and the accompanying drawings to designate corresponding arts. 1. p In carrying out the invention, there is provided an improved sanitary waterhydrant'construction generally designated by the reference nu" meral l including a vertically extending metal pipe forming an outer jacket 2, the same being set into the ground 3 approximately two feet and extending above the ground 3 to a height of approximately two feet or slightly more or less, as desired. v 4 I The upper and lower ends of the outer jacket 2 "will be closed by thecap members ,4' and 5 respectively, and will be secured in place either by welding 6 or in, any other manner (not shown).
The cap members 4 and 5 will be centrally apertured at I and 8, said apertures being in vertical alignment and provided for the reception of the axially disposed water supply pipe Swhich willbe connected witha suitable source of water supply (not shown). The upper end of the water supply pipe 9 willbe internally threaded (not shown). to receive and support a short section of pipe IEl formed with a laterally extending drain tube H, the outer end of which will extend through the outer hydrant jacket 2.
A section of pipe l2 will be threaded into the upper end of the short section of pipe l0. and a T-fitting l3 will be threaded upon the upper end of said pipe [2.
An upper section of pipe [4 will be threaded into the upper end of the T-fitting l3 and will extend through the central aperture 7 formed through the upper cap member 4.
A valve seat (not shown) will be provided in the upper end of the water supply pipe 9, and a cam actuated valve assembly generally designated by the reference numeral [5 will be supported by the upper cap member 4, being disposed within the pipe sections connected above the Water supply pipe 9, and seatable on said valve seat.
The water discharge outlet for said hydrant I will include a nipple l6 threaded upon its opposite ends, one end being threaded into the T-fitting l3, while its opposite end extends through an aperture IT formed through the outer jacket 2, and is threaded into the coupling l8 exteriorly supported upon the outer jacket 2.
A Chicago fitting. I9 is threaded at 20 on its inner end for threading into the coupling [8, said fitting 19 extending downwardly and outwardly at an angle of approximately forty-five degrees.
The space between the outer jacket 2 and the water supply pipe 9 and the several pipes supported thereby, will be filled with rockwool or hair felt insulation 2 I, while the upper end of the outer jacket 2 will be sealed by a two inch layer of waterproof cement 22.
A dome-shaped cover member 23 of metal or plastic, or any other desired material will be hinged at 24 to the outer surface of the upper end of the outer jacket 2 for overlying the fitting 19 when the hydrant is not actually in operation. The hinge construction 24 will include a laterally extending supporting lug 25 secured to the outer jacket 2, and a pair of spaced ears 26 secured to the cover member'23, said lug and ears being apertured to receive a hinge pin 21.
A pair of similarly formed oppositely disposed dummy sanitary connections are provided upon the lower .portion of theouter jacket 2, and include the outwardly and downwardly extending pipes 28 and 29 which are welded at 30 to said jacket 2. Pipe sections 3| and 32 are disposed axially within the pipes 28 and 29 and are welded at 33 to the jacket 2. Chicago fittings 34 and 35 are secured to the outer ends of the .pipe sections 3| and 32, terminating well inside the outer "ends of the pipes 28 and 29.
The usual short section of hose 36 is provided atitsopposite ends with the Chicago fittings 3'! and 38, and with outwardly flared protecting skirts 39 and 40, whereby when. the fittings 31 and 38 are connectedwith the fittings 34 and 35 within the pipes 28 and 29, the ends of the hose 36,will b'e above th'e level of the ground 3, completely housed within the pipes 28 and 29, in such a manner that no germs or dirt will reach the fittings, as would be the case were the hose 36 permitted to lie directly on the ground 3.
While the preferred embodiment of the instant inventionhas been illustrated and described, it will be understood that it is not intended to limit the scope of the invention thereto, as many minor changes in detail of construction may be resorted to without departure from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
A sanitary water supply structure comprising a hydrant including a vertical casing, a supply pipe extending upwardly through said casing and having an outlet pipe extending laterally therefrom and out of said casing, there being a fitting at the outer end of said outlet pipe, a cover for the outlet and its fitting movable to closed and open positions, sleeves extending from opposite sides, of-saidcasing below the outlet and its cover, short pipes extending from said casing within said sleeves centrally thereof and at their outer ends carrying fittings spaced inwardly from open outer ends of the sleeves, and a flexible hose having fittings at opposite ends selectively de' tachably engageable with the fitting of said outlet pipe,said hose being of a length adapting it to be disposed transversely of said casing when detached from the outlet pipe and have its end portionsturned upwardly and inwardly and'its fittings. detachably connected with the fittings in said sleeves.
