Description

1952 c. GOYETTE I 2,580,671
COMBINATION FLOWER BOX AND HOUSE MARKER Filed on. 7, 1949 INVENTUn. C ke/'49s ayeze ATTORNEYS Patented Jan. 1, 1952 TENT OFFICE COMBINATION FLOWER BOX AND noose MARKER Charles Goyette; Pawtucket, R. I. Application October 7, 1949, Serial No. 120,070
1 Claim. (01. 40-128) This invention relates to box and house marker. 1
It is desirable to provide some'devlce of an ornamental character on which to display the name of the occupant and the street number of a house. Such a device is usually made in a fiat form and either attached directly to some part of the house or on a post located in some appropriate position adjacent the house.
The general object of this invention is to provide a house marker of the above character which will be made in such form as to be ornamental and to provide for the novel display of the name of the occupant of the house and the street number thereof.
Another object of this invention is to provide a house marker of the above character so constructed that the street number of the house and the name of the occupant thereof may be displayed on separate but adjacent surfaces.
Another object of this invention is to provide a house marker made in two parts with one of said parts detachably suspended from the other.
Another object of this invention is to provide a house marker having a portion thereof made in a form to be utilized in a manner to add to a, combined flower the decorative value of the device.
A more specific object of the invention is to provide a house marker having a part suspended in a manner to prevent the free swaying thereof.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a an elevational view partly in section showing a house marker embodying my invention;
Figure 2 is an end elevational view thereof shown partly in section; and
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the house marker shown in the above figures.
In carrying out my invention, I employ some familiar object which may be adapted to receive characters thereon to designate the name of the occupant and the street number of a particular dwelling. In the present instance I .make the body of the marker in the shape of a flower box which provides separate adjacent sur 'faces on which to display the above said name and street number. The said flower box is arranged to be suspended from a bracket which is made of a design appropriate to and usually associated with flower boxes. Thus, I provide a marker which is very ornamental, the body of which may be utilized for the growing of plants or for holding various forms of flowers whereby to enhance the appearance of the marker as a whole.
Referring to the drawings for a more detailed description of the invention, in designates generally a house marker comprising a body H which in the present instance is made in a form of a flower box providing side walls [2 and end walls 13. On the side walls 12, the name M of the occupant of the house may be displayed, as shown in Figures 1 and 3, and on one of the end walls [3 the street number [5 may be displayed. The side walls I 2 are also each provided with widely spaced openings It with the said openings on one of said walls aligned with the openings on the other of said walls.
The body I l is suspended from a bracket designated generally I! having a base portion l8 provided with openings IS in which is received screws or the like fastening means (not shown) for attaching the said bracket to a support 29, which support may be either a wall of a house or a post located at an appropriate position adjacent to said house. The base 18 is made of a pleasing shape and has an arm 2| integral therewith and extending therefrom at substantially right angles thereto. The arm 2| is provided with an upward extended integral portion 22 which shape has a contour or outline representing a house with trees and shrubbery surrounding the same. The house and shrubbery so outlined is painted an appropriate color to complete the appearance thereof. The lower side of the arm 2! is provided with widely spaced lugs 23'. each provided with an opening 24 extending therethrough.
The body II is suspended from the bracket 2| by means of U-shaped bails 25 which are made of a resilient wire or similar material whereby the arms 26 of the bail may be sprung toward each other and return to their former position upon the force being removed. The free end of each arm 26 is made in hook form 21 and extends through the opening 16 to suspend the body i l therefrom. The spacing of the openings I6 is of a distance much greater than the spacing between the lugs 23. This requires that the bails 25 depend from the lugs 23 at a substantial angle to the vertical and with the bails converging upwardly toward each other whereby the weight of the body I I will tend to move the balls toward each other and thereby lock the same against any free movement thereof.
The body I I may be detached from the bails in an obvious manner such as by springing the arms 26 inwardly toward each other as shown in dotted lines in Figure 2.
It will be apparent that I have disclosed a house marker having a body portion made of a form which may be utilized for the growing of the usual plants during the appropriate season and which may be used in other seasons for the display of the usual evergreen boughs, berries, and so forth.
I claim:
A house marker comprising a rectangular box like body having side and end walls providing substantially right angularly adjacent surfaces of substantial length on which there is displayed the name of the occupant and street number of a dwelling, said side walls having widely spaced openings therein with the opening in one of said side walls in line with the opening in the other side wall, a bracket having widely spaced lugs depending therefrom, bails attached to said lugs and depending therefrom with the arms of said bails extending laterally at equal distances from 4 the sides of said bracket and engaging said openings whereby to suspend said body from said bracket centrally thereof, said pairs of openings in each of said side walls being spaced a distance greater than the spacing between said lugs whereby each of said bails depend from said bracket at a substantial angle to the vertical.
