Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANQOIS XAVIER POZNANSKI, OF PARIS, FRANCE.
FOUNTAIN-PEN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 257,756, dated May 9, 1882. Application filed November 30, 1881. (Model.) Patented in France June 20, 1881.
To ull whom it may concern Be it known that I, F. X. POZNANSKI, of Paris, in the Republic of France, have invented an Improvement in Fountain-Pens, of which the following is a specification.
The invention consists in adapting a. penholder to receive and distribute ink by the particular means hereinafter described.
Figures l and 2 of the drawings are elevations, of which the former shows the exterior of the pen-holder and the latter that of the ink-bottle. Figs. 3 and 4 are vertical sections, exhibiting respectively the interior of the penholder and the ink-bottle.
In the drawings, represents the main tube or'ink-reservoir, having at the upper end a shouldered tube, a', which supports an elastic topclosed tube or air-chamber, b.
c is a sleeve surrounding the end of the tube a and elastic tube b and piston-head d, and rests upon the upper edge of theV reservoirtube a, and has at the upper end an opening, c', sufficiently large for the passage of the stem of piston d.
e is a hollow plug fitting the main tube a, closed at the lower end, and having near said end the side opening, g.
his a rod bent at the lower end to form a right angle, and extending up loosely through the center of plug@ to the top of the reservoirtube a.. This facilitates the movement of the air andthe ink. iis an end-beveled tube which surrounds the lower part of tube e and projects beyond the tube a.
la is an ink-bottle having an elastic bottom, l, and an elastic stopper, the top of the bottle also having a central hole, fm, through which the tube/t' is entered. Then by pressing the elastic bottom upward a suppl v ofink is forced into the reservoir-tube a.. The pen is inserted in the usual way between the tubes c t', and is supplied, by a slight pressure with the piston upon the tube or air-chamber b, with ink enough to write several lines.
The ink-bottle which I preferably use in connection with the fountain-pen is described iu order to make the invention more clearly understood, but will form the subject-matter of another application.
Having thus described all that is necessary to a full understanding of my inventionwhat I claim as new is The combination of the piston d, elastic tube b, sleeve c, reservoir-tube a, having the shouldered end tube, a', the hollow plug e, having closed bottom fand side opening, g, the rod 7L, and the tube t', to form a pen-holder adaptedV to receive and distribute ink, as, described.
