. l-Claim. p 1 The present invention class of sound recording and reproducing appliances, or mechanical phonographs of the fiat multi-record type, and more specifically to multiple coin operated phonograph controls which while adapted for various purposes and uses, are designed as portable units, one of which is operatively installed within each of two or more phonograph structures, and connected withthe operating circuits of the system of phonographs.
Theprimary purpose of the invention is to con-- trol the operation of one of two, or more, phonographs in an electrically connected system, and
to prevent the mechanical or automatic operation of other phonographs in the system simultaneously with a selected phonograph. Means are also provided, however, forallowing another customer or customers, to select a desirednumber or numbers for one or more of the other phonographs in the system after depositing a coin in the phonograph, and these. selected numbers will be played only after the first operating machine has ceased to play its number. V
Another object of the invention is; to provide an electrical control unit forapair of coin-con trolled electrically-operated phonographs which will permit only one of the phonographs to oper ate at a time in the event that a plurality of coins are inserted in the phonograph. For convenience in illustrating and describing my invention only two phonographs or machines of the coin operated type are herein employed in which the control units are readily adapted to, and they may with facility be installed within the phonographs of a system, and these control units successfully perform theirfunctions in the operating circuits instandard types of coin operated phonographs having record changing mechanisms.
The invention consists in certain novel combinations and arrangements of the electrical wiring and electrical appliances in the control units and the operating circuits as will hereinafter be described and more particularly set forth in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings I have illustrated a complete example of a physical embodiment of the invention in which the. parts are combined and arranged in accord with one mode I have devised for the practical application of the principles of my invention. It will, however, be understood that changes and alterations are contemplated and may be made in these exemplifying drawings and electrical arrangements, within the scope of my claim, without departing from the principles of the invention.

For a clear understanding of my invention I have shown in Fig. 1 two typical coin-operated automatic phonographs A and B which may be spaced apart and located at desirable points in places of amusement and entertainment, or in other public places for the convenience of customers or patrons. Each of the phonographs is equipped with a control panel J, speakers D, a turn-table or record carrier E with its tone arm G, a stack of records or disk tablets R and the changing mechanism, and other necessary equipment as amplifiers H, motors, cabinet lights etc.
In carrying out my invention each of the phonographs A and B has installed therein a portable control unit shown diagrammatically in Fig. 2 which includes a control panel that has a plurality of female jacks -P mounted on a frame plate F that is installed within the cabinet of the respective phonographs, the control panel constituting a junction box. The wiring includes input wires l and 2 that are connected with a step down transformer T, of the iron core type, and mounted on the frame plate F. By means of output wires 1 and 8 from the transformer to a relay or solenoid S, electrical energy is suppliedfor the switch circuits 3 and 4 and 5 and 6, for operating control switches 34 and 36 under control of the solenoid; and a fuse 9 is interposed in the output wire 8 for emergency purposes in the portable control unit.
The transfer T has the same input voltage requirement as that employed in its equipped phonograph, and the output of the transformer is of ample capacity to hold the apron or armature of the solenoid S and open the respective control switches 34 and 36 of the speakers D, D; and the fuse 9 operates to protect the solenoid.
For installing the respective control units in the phonographs A and B, some of the wires of each of the control units, as well as the electrical equipment of the phonographs, are provided with attachable electrical connectors, or terminals of the plug and socket type and provision is made on the control panels J, J, for these connections. In Fig. 1, where the portable units are installed in the respective coin phonographs A and B; and in the diagram of electrical wiring in Fig. 5; in order to supply ample voltage to the transformers T, T, two wires l0 and H from junctiorfibbx J the/ phonograph'fl are plugged into thejack'P-pfthecontrol unit of machine or phonograph A, and two wires l2 and (3 from panel J of the phonograph B are plugged into the jack P of the unit of phonograph B;

When a coin is deposited in phonograph B, the initially closed switches 34 and 36 are opened in this phonograph, and circuit wires I0 and II are interrupted in the box J of phonograph A to render inoperative this phonograph.
