An object of the invention is to provide efficient means for securing the seat section land the base section of a high chair together, against accidental separation,
, .Another Object of the invention is the .novel construction of a base section with a depending grooved flange around part of .said base section, for receiving the detachable seat section, and securing the seat section upon the base section against accidental displacement.
A still further object of the invention is to provide an efficient catch structure for holding the separable base and seat sections in an assembled position.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, this invention comprises certain novel constructions, combinations, and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and more particu larly pointed out in the appended claims.

Figure 1 is a View in side elevation of a high chair constructed in accordance with the present invention, while Figure 2 is a front view in elevation.
Figure 3 is a rear view, showing part of the base section broken away.
Figure iis an enlarged, fragmentary sectional view of the high chair.
Figure 5 is a horizontal sectional view, taken on line 5-5, Fig. 1, and looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 6 is an enlarged sectional view taken on line 6-6, Fig. 1, and looking in the direction of the arrows.
Referring to the drawings in which the preferred embodiment of this invention relating to my high chair is illustrated, l designates the seat section and 2 is the base section. The base section 2 is provided with four legs 3. Around the back and sides of the base section 2 is a depending grooved flange 4, that is substantially U- shaped in cross section.
The seat section I is provided around its back and sides with a straight depending flange 5 which fits into the grooved flange 4 as shown. There are preferably three spring catches 6 employed in this invention, and as they are alike, it will only be necessary to specifically describe one of said spring catches. The spring catch 6 is provided with a long body I that is permanently secured at 8 to the side of the seat section I. The body 7 is provided on its lower end with a hook 9, Fig. 4, that has an inwardly and. downwardly extending spring tongue I0 for the pur- 2 pose hereinafter specified. When the seat 's'ection has its flange 5 resting in the grooved flange 4, the tongue 10 will be bearing against the bottom of the grooved flange 4, securing the seat section on the base section against accidental displacement. When the sections are'positioned together, the spring catches 6 will be caused to snap into position, as shown, whereby a very snug andefficient lock is produced, which will securely fasten the sections together. When it is desired to remove the seat section I from the base section 2, the operator pulls outwardly on the hook ends 9 of the spring snap catches, whereupon the tongues ID will ride outwardly on the bottom of the grooved flange 4 until the hooked ends 9 clear said grooved flange, whereupon the seat section I can easily be lifted off the base section 2. This structure is very eificient because the grooved flange-4 performs a dual function. First, it provides the receiving means for the flange 5 and second, it furnishes the means for engaging the spring tongues ID for efliciently holding the spring catches 6 in a closed or fastening position.
A foot rest I! is provided which comprises a foot engaging portion I2 and a back portion I3. The foot rest II is notched at I4 to fit portions of the legs 3, as clearly shown in Fig. 5. This provides securing means for assisting in retaining the foot rest ll upon the base section 2. By any'suitable means the back portion 13 is fixedly secured near its two vertical edges to the inner faces of the front legs 3 of the base section 2.
A tray I4 is pivotally mounted at I5 upon a flange I5, extending from the seat section 2. On the seat section 2 is a socket [1, Fig. 6, into which extends a spring pressed sliding bolt 18. A grip I9 is formed on sliding bolt l8, which grip extends through a slot 20 of a housing 2]. When the sliding bolt I8 is in its locking position, Fig. 6, the pivotally mounted tray [4' will be held in its closed position upon the seat section I. By exerting outward pressure on the grip I9, the sliding bolt can be moved to an unlocked position, whereupon the tray can be moved outwardly at one end, allowing the child to be placed in the seat section, or removed therefrom, as the case may be.
The flange I6, Fig. 4, is fixedly secured to a. flange I6a that is an integral part of the seat section I.
The suspension means 22 for supporting the seat section on suitable objects, when the seat section is removed from the base section, is fully illustrated and described in my co-pending United States application.
This high chair may be made of metal, wood, or plastic, provided the essential features of this invention are retained when constructing the high chair of different materials.
While I have described the preferred embodiment of my invention and illustrated the same in the accompanying drawings, certain minor changes or alterations may appear to one skilled in the art to which this invention relates during the extensive manufacture of the same, and I, therefore, reserve the right to make such changes or alterations as shall fairly fall within the scope of the appended claims.
WhatIclaim is: 1. In a high chair, the combination of a base section and a seat section, said base section provided with a grooved flange, said seat section provided with a flange fitting into said grooved flange, and catches on said seat section and engaging said grooved flange for securing said sections together.
2. In a high chair, the combination of a base section provided around its back and sides with a continuous grooved flange, a seat section provided around its back and sides with a continuous flange fitting into said first mentioned flange, and manually operated means supported upon said seat section and engaging said flrst mentioned grooved flange for locking the sections together.
3. In a high chair, the combination of a base section provided on its upper part with a depending grooved flange substantially U-shaped in cross section, a seat section provided upon its lower edge or part with a straight depending flange fitting the said U-shaped flange, a plurality of spring catches on said seat section, each spring catch comprising a substantially straight body, a hook end formed upon the lower part of said straight body, and said hook provided with a spring tongue extending inwardly and downwardly and normally pressing against the bottom of said U-shaped flange.
