Description
(No Model.) V
W. T. KOSINSKI.
DEVICE FOR CONVERTING MOTION.
0 4 PM A WITNESSES: I INV ENTDR= 7 W g h M UNITED STATES,
PATENT OFFICE.
WLADYSLAW T. KOSINSKI, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR OF TWO- TENTHS TO HUBERT WEST, OF SAME PLACE.
DEVICE FOR CONVERTING MOTlON.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 257,344, dated'May 2, 11882.
Application filed July ill, 1880. Renewed May 16, 1881. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WLADYsLaw T. KosiusKI, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, Kings county, New York, have in- 5 vented certain new and useful Improvements 1 5 which the reciprocating motion ofthe lever connected to a chain transmits a rotary motion to the device connected therewith; and it consists in a chain both ends of which are connected to a lever, by means of which the ob- 2o ject to be rotated is gripped, and by the alternate reciprocation of thelever a continuous rotary motion imparted to said object. 7
l have represented my invention as applied to a drill-stock; but it is applicable to chucks,
z5 jack-screws, punching-machines, and numerous analogous devices where conversion ot'mo tion is desirable.
The extremities of thechain areprovided with 0 links E and F. The former is bolted to or near the extremity of the lever D and the latter a short distance above it, the construction being such that by the motion of the lever in onedirection its point will grip the stock, while part of the link F will clutch the collar or cap B,by means of which the stock will be partially rotated. By repeating the operation, continuous rotary motion is obtained.
Connected to near the inner and lower extremity of the lever D is the spring I, curved atits freeend, theobject of which is to be held in frictional contact with the cap, and thereby preventing the turning back of the stock during the interval the gripis being renewed, and preventing lost motion.
When the device is used as a screw-jack, and it should become necessary to reverse the motion or rotation of the screw, the chain is details and application to various devices enumerated above.
It is evident that in lieu of the chains, steel bands or wire rope may be used with same resalt. In the accompanying drawings, Figure I Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The manner of converting reciprocating into rotary motion by means of chain, steel band, or wire rope, (the ends of which are connected to a lever,) encompassing the object to be rotated by alternate grip and slip motion, as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination of the stock and cap, chain, and lever, as described.
W. T. KOSINSKI.
