FRONT SIGHT FOR FIREARMS Alfred Jacobs, New York, N. Y., assignor to Metropolitan Firearms Company, New York,
N. Y., a partnership Application January 24, 1947, Serial No. 723,964
2 Claims. 1
The present invention relates to improvements in front sights for firearms, and more particu larly to hand arms such as revolvers, pistols and automatics, one object of the invention being the provision of a detachable ramp which is a bead positioning member, thus making it unnecessary to file down the normal sight to rivet or weld a ramp as is usually done, and which latter also carries only one type of bead, whereas with this invention, diiferent types, such as white, red, gilt or otherwise can be inserted at will.
To more fully understand and appreciate the advantages of this invention attention is invited to the drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a side view of revolver equipped with the present attachment.
Figure 2 is a section taken on line 2--2 of Fig. 1.
Figure 3 is a longitudinal section through the front end of the barrel and the ramp showing the bead in place.
Figures 4, 5 and 6 are detail views of the beads per se.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral l designates a revolver of the usual type having a barrel 2, a fixed sight 3, and the rear groove member 4.
To convert this revolver to a ramp type, a ramp member 5, is provided, having in side elevation the inclined portion 6 terminating at the forward end in the flat portion 1, while the underside B is grooved to snugly fit upon the upper portion of the barrel adjacent the sight 3, there being provided in the forward end of the ramp member a slot 9, to fit over and encompass the sight, and thus hold the ramp against longitudinal displacement.
Before the ramp is placed upon the sight 3 and barrel, the bead I0 is placed into the rear end of the slot 9, so that its lug H fits against the inclined portion 12 of the slot 9, and so that the sight contacting curved face I2 will rest against the rear edge of the sight with the sighting bead l3, above the ramp aligned with the sight and the rear groove of the fire arm.
In order that the ramp and bead maybe firmly clamped in place upon the barrel, a spring tubular device 14, fits snugly about the barrel adjacent the ramp and sight, with its fiat parallel gripping rims or edges I5 gripping the ramp upon opposite sides, the ramp being provided with arcuate recesses 16 to receive mating arcuate projections l 7 carried by the device [4.
By this arrangement it will be noted that any barrel can be quickly equipped with a ramp and bead, the sight and the barrel being utilised to hold the same in place.
What is claimed is:
1. In a front sight for firearms, the combination with a firearm member, of a fixed front sight substantially semi-circular in shape and upstanding from the firearm member, a ramp fitting upon the firearm member and embracing the fixed front sight with the upper portion of the fixed front sight above the ramp, and a bead member provided with a wedging support fitted within the ramp and against the rear of the fixed front sight, whereby said beads upper portion cooperates with the fixed front sight to form a single sighting element therewith.
2. The combination as claimed in claim 1, wherein a securing means in the form of an open clamp band surrounds the firearm member adjacent the fixed front sight and is provided with parallel terminals to grip the ramp upon opposite sides adjacent the fixed front sight.
ALFRED JACOBS.
